Q: HP Laserjet 1012 no longer communicates with system since HP Printer Software Update v. 3.1

Using a Mac Pro 5.1 (mid 2012) 3Ghz processor

OS 10.9.5

installed HP Printer Software Update v3.1 late June.

Since then the system no longer communicates with the printer.

Docs spool to Print Queue.

Message appears "Printing - Waiting for printer to become available" then times out - eventually.

Have deleted printer and re-added. Tried using Generic Printer Driver. Nothing seems to work.

Printer is on, cables connected, test print direct from printer works perfectly.

Ideas?

EXAAAAACCCT same issue. How did you notice it was after the software update? That must be the answer because it just recently stopped working for me too. HP 1012. Mysteriously stopped working when it was working fine prior. I assume it's the software update? Question is, did yours recently update automatically or was it direct though HP's website? How are you checking the current firmware revision?

Updated through the system updates not through the HP website. Couldn't actually find anything on the HP website that even referenced 10.9. Only seems to be up to Snow Leopard.

According to the Print Queue Settings, the driver version is 2.0.4

It does occasionally print, but for arcane reasons known only to mystics and sages. I spent some time on the phone with Apple tech support, and did a little dance of restarting, turning off power to the printer, deleting and re-adding the printer, and that seemed to work but it stopped working again almost immediately. Now I can't even get that magical chant to have a reliable influence.

I hate the idea that a perfectly functional piece of equipment would have to go to the landfill because of a ^#%#%^&% software update.

If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.

    Tried and failed, I'm afraid.

I cannot BEGIN to say how supremely UNHELPFUL this was.  As mentioned in the above posts, ALL of the suggestions in these documents have been tried and have not succeeded. To  be clear though: The printer is turned on; the printer is connected to the computer; the printer has toner; the printer is connected to the network; the printer has paper; the print queue is not stalled or paused; I have installed the latest driver (which is where the problem started); I have deleted and re-added the printer; I have reset the print queue. Once again,

Update: have installed Yosemite and latest driver in the VAIN hope that this might solve the problem. Have since gone through the whole dance - AGAIN. Problem persists. If anyone has anything to suggest that ISN'T in the troubleshooting docs, please let me know, as the standard troubleshooting and apple tech support have not solved the problem.

I'm thinking this is a problem with the driver.
