Will a Mac run the software your need to use?

What software do you use then, we need to know as much detail information as you can provide and then we can begin giving you some ideas. I would also STRONGLY recommend visiting an Apple Store and telling them in detail about your needs and then they can provide you with the care you need.

Any iMac with a i7 Quad 4 micro processor and SSD for storage. I would recommend a 27" model. If you want to buy new then you will need to order from Apple's online store, you can speak to one of their folks by calling the online store number and they can help you if you need it. I would recommend buying the base 8GB of RAM and then buying another 8GB of RAM from either Crucial or OWC (www.macsales.com) and uprade it yourself, it takes less than 5 minutes and needs no tools.

Does an I Mac really "pays back" in terms of long time use and many years to come.

It is a very good computer; however, you cannot predict the longevity of anything electronic. I have always paid for the added Applecare protection which gives you a full warranty for 3 years - Applecare has paid for one new hard drive, 2 logic boards, and 2 Superdrives (all within 3 years of owning four different iMacs). I do not expect any computer to last longer than 3 - 5 years - for one thing, it will be completely outdated by newer, faster processors, faster RAM, etc. and after 6 - 7 years, it will/may run the latest OS, but will be slow about it because it was not designed to run that.

I don't use the software you do and do not do image printing as a business, so I cannot answer that question. I have been happy with the color reproduction for the photos and images I do - it also depends on the printer of course.

I would ask the question in the Adobe forums as well.

In my opinion, Mac more than pay back by allowing you to spend more time doing actual work and less time maintaining your computer. iMacs need zero maintenance, they run best if left 100% alone and not using any third party utilities such as antivirus, cleaning, or other maintenance utilities. There are zero viruses for OS X, however there is a small amount of malware which is very easily avoided by:

• Never use a torrent to download anything.
• Keep OS X up-to-date.
• If an add,  pop-up, e-mail or phone call comes in that advises the computer has been compromised, these are all a SCAM!!!

Also the user experience (IMHO) is much more enjoyable than using Windows There is a small transition time to learn OS X however in my experience the transition takes less than 3-4 weeks. I would spend some time reviewing Mac Basics

None of us know if or when Apple will release a new product - we won't know until they announce it.

As for the monitor and exact colors: I do not have a retina or 4k screen, but I have read that they are wonderful to look at on the screen, but the actual colors are not quite the same when printed. I would not rely on the retina showing an actual color once the image has been printed. I would do some specific research on that subject before buying anything.
