I see that you are experiencing an issue with your iPod classic and it is not staying connected to iTunes on your Mac when attached with a USB cable. This sounds like an issue that could be resolved using the steps and information in the following article:

Sep 8, 2015 9:02 AM in response to braden85by domruddock,Appreciate the help but it is nothing to do with the actual connection to the device. I have tried different ports, cables, disconnecting, reconnecting, restarting etc. The ipod will charge and does not abrubtly disconnect as it loads the 'ok to disconnect' message which indicates that it remains connected. Instead itunes will not recognise it and it ejects immediately after connecting. The computer even recognises it in finder just not on itunes. I feel like it is some sort of software issue but im clueless, any other suggesions?

I understand a little bit more about your situation now. You’re specifically seeing a device connection issue in iTunes, but not in your computer as a whole. Here is an article with the steps for troubleshooting it at the iTunes level:
If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac - Apple Support
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203979
You may also want to simply reinstall iTunes, by following the steps in this article for reinstalling apps that came with your computer:

Hope this helps. Thanks again for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
