Q: Will the apple pencil work on ipad air 2

No. If you would have listened to the Apple Event this morning, you would have heard about all of this hardware that was put into the iPad Pro to make the Apple Pencil operate. Needless to say that is not in the iPad Air 2.

I had the same question in my post entitled “Stylus”.  Apparently, the answer is no.  I was waiting and hoping it would be, so, Surface Pro it is.  I find nothing attractive regarding iPad Pro (especially considering the OS X / iOS folly).

OS X/iOS folly? How is this any different than the iPad Air 2?

How do we know the technology in the iPad Air 2 isn't the same as in the Pro? Maybe that's the reason no pressure-sensitive stylus like Wacoms or Jot touches work with the new Air 2 screen. We do know that Apple "changed the touch technology" in the Air 2. Who's to say it didnt get the Pro tech first, or at least a precursor to the tech in the Pro?

Anything beyond the information Apple has released is conjecture which is not allowed on the Forum. I'll take Apple at their word on this one.

Maybe Pencil will work with old iPad's as simple stylus without all new pressure features??

I would highly reccommend the Pencil by 53 as an alternative to the apple pencil. It has many features such as palm rejection, surface pressure, erase  and blend and  and works with Works on iPad 3, 4, Air (all), mini (all), and iPhone 4S and above. However, the apple pencil is designed with a hard tip which allows for a more natural expression of your sketches, and the Pencil by 53 tip can wear out depending on use.

Why?! I don't want to believe it. How can they dare to make a stylus only for IPad pro? I have an iPad Air 2 and many stylus like Wacom's brand aren't compatible because apple change the screen. I was waiting for the new that they will go to release a stylus for IPad Air 2 and now I don't have any hope. :/ Please Apple make compatible the apple pencil or make a new one for the iPad Air 2.

I had the Pencil by 53 for a couple weeks and loved it and the Paper app, but it had 2 shortcomings for me:

1. It was a big fat tip, making it difficult to be precise.
2. The surface pressure is not real pressure sensitivity, because it seems to be based on the angle of the pencil and how much surface coverage the squishy tip was spread out and touching on the screen, not how hard you press on the iPad with the tip of the Pencil.

I'm using an Adonit Jot Touch 4 now with my Air 2, and it ticks all the boxes.  I wish it was as precise as the Apple Pencil is claiming to be.  I'm hoping they're the same screen technology so I can just buy an Apple Pencil and use it with my Air 2.

Any info on when we can see the Pro in stores for a demo, or do we have to wait until it's available in stores for sale?

Well said, my friend. Adonit's range of styluses are undoubtedly the most precise writing implements on the market. Also, the pencil by 53 has a tip that requires replacement often, and the replacement tips also cost money. What you really need is spmething that lasts indefinitely so you dont have to worry about wearing out. The Jot Script is a solid choise.

I haven't seen any mention of a pre-sale store display for the iPad Pro. It seemed to work well for the   Watch so we'll have to wait for an official Apple announcement.
