Q: MacBook and iMac both disconnect from the wifi after a period of no usage.

I have a problem with my MacBook (12 inch) and iMac (27 inch, newest model but not the 5k version) both disconnecting from the wifi if I do not use it for a long period of time. While the wifi signal icon in the top bar still shows I am connected, whenever I try to load a page on the internet (browser of preference is Chrome), it says I am not connected to the internet. The only way I have found to reconnect it is to turn my wifi off and on again, and wait for it to reconnect back to my wifi, then I am good to go until I stop using my computer for a while. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? I am pretty sure it is not my internet, because this never happens with the iPhone or iPad. Both Macs are using the latest version of OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.5.

Things I have not yet tried are using another browser and seeing if I have the same problem, and using an application outside of the browser to test connectivity. I have discovered no temporary fixes other than what I mentioned above.

Thanks!

MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Turn off your internet modem and Wi-Fi router and all devices.

Wait ten seconds then restart the modem, router, etc.

I have the same problem on my 12 inch Macbook; I've had the problem since I first got the computer ~9 months ago.  It's intermittent, but really debilitating for a computer that has limited ports and is supposed to be Always Connected.  I've tried everything, too - Apple's recommended WiFi settings, bought a new Time Capsule, I've tried all the ideas the Internet has on it like certain combinations of settings that may help, resetting SMC, new Network location, and so on.

I've got a couple other laptops active at home (original aluminum unibody Macbook, Surface 3) and a bunch of phones and I've never, ever had this sort of problem with any of them.  When my Macbook disconnects from WiFi and I have to toggle WiFi off / on to reconnect, the other active machines are completely fine.  It is not a problem with my network.

Now my keyboard is failing (stuck keys) so I'm finally taking into Apple for servicing on that matter.  I would prefer a new machine to a repaired keyboard, but we'll see what happens.  Overall I try to use a different computer if at all possible, because this one just isn't reliable enough.  For me, the disconnect happens at any random time, i.e. not just when inactive for a while or on wake from sleep.

Same issue as everyone else. Fairly new Macbook.  Switched to TWC and the Macbook is having issues staying connected.  The Macbook Air does not have any issue nor doesf my Macbook 15 2014 version.  Just the Macbook.  Any ideas?
