Plug in where? And with what?

Are you using the charger that came with the iPad? And do you have that plugged into a good wall outlet?

I have an iPad Air (not a 2) and when mine is OFF and I plug it to the wall charger, it turns it on and after boot it presents me the lock screen. I see the battery icon on the right and it does reflect that it is charging. If this is not happening to you, you could have a defective cable (common) or a charger. Make sure you are using the 12 W charger that came with it and not an iPhone charger. Also most computers will not be able to charge an iPad (the will an iPhone) unless the high a power USB port.

Ary, if your iPad is off and you then plug it into the charger, does the iPad turn ON automatically? This is the behavior I see on mine. If yours does not do this, I suspect you have a corrupted iOS. Post back and I will help you with it...

Yes it does turn ON automatically. Is that normal? So what shall I do then?

Ary, if your iPad is turned off, it is normal for it to turn on automatically after you plug it to a wall charger. You should first see a screen like the first one below (momentarily only), then a screen like the second one below (a little longer but again momentarily only; the third screenshot is just a blow up of the upper right corner). Then all goes black while it is charging. If you are not seeing this behavior, then do the following, a forced restart:

Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it comes up. You will not lose any data or apps.

Also make sure the battery % is set to ON. Follow the advice here:

Show battery percentage on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If the above does not work we will have to do a full Reset. Post back and I will walk you through it....

    Cheers....

Yes I am seeing this behaviour on mine. So when I turn it off again while it is charging it won't show the battery percentage or the battery icon charge, just black screen, right.

Ary, the answer to your question is simple this time. Yes, this is normal behavior. In fact, to not lead you astray, I verified it for myself and my iPad Air (not a 2) does the same....
