Q: i just backed up a new iphone, can i get the previous backed up?

I just got a new phone, and by mistake I clicked on back up my phone instead of restore? can I get my oldest back up?

Also,  my second choice I saw its to back up my IPad to my ITUNEs and to back up to my phone its asking me for "enter the password to unlock your iphone back up" i put my apple ID password and its incorrect as well as my Ipad password and nothing.

Please help! I dont want to lose my sons pictures!

If you were using iTunes when you did this, you could check iCloud to see if by any chance you have a backup there that precedes the iTunes backup you just did. It may contain the info you want. I don't think you can get the old iTunes backup back!!

I don't understand what you mean by the above. If you are trying to restore an iPad backup into an iPhone, that is not possible to my knowledge. Also if it is asking you for a PW for a backup, you must have encrypted the backup, otherwise it would not ask for a PW.

No it seems that I lost all my back ups.

    Only have my IPad.

And trying to transfer my pictures from my ipad to my new Iphone, what I was backed up my Ipad to Itunes so I could back up my phone, but since its encrypted like you mention I can't do this since I do not remember what was the password.

I am afraid I have bad news and good news. If your current backup is encrypted all your future ones will be as well. It is essential that you read the article below and restore the phone as new to allow you to make future backups that are not encrypted.

See below, specially the last section.

About encrypted backups in iTunes - Apple Support

Now perhaps the good news. If you have pics on your iPad that you want to transfer to your iPhone just AirDrop them to the phone but do this after the above.

    Here is how.

Share content with AirDrop from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If you are trying to transfer photos from your iPad to your iPhone, where are those photos located on your iPad? What Album are they showing in?

Good question/point Gail. More for the OP as you know all of this already, if the pictures on her iPad are in Camera Roll, they can be AirDropped into her phone after she resets it as new to solve the encryption problem. If her pictures are in Albums she synced from a computer somewhere (which I doubt) she can just sync those to her phone directly from the computer, again after solving the encryption issue.

It is clear why a user cannot get to an encrypted backup without the PW but I do not understand why future backups cannot be done unencrypted without restoring as new.  Seems like an unnecessary burden to me.

Yeah, I agree with you on the encryption question. Not sure why you have to remember your passcode to stop encrypting backups.

For the photos, if the OP had responded indicating that they were on the Camera Roll, I was going to suggest that they import those and then sync them via iTunes. Airdrop would certainly work if the OP's devices and configurations meet the requirements. But since the OP was concerned about losing photos, the only way to ensure that you have them regardless of what happens to your devices, is to import them to a computer, then back them up to an external drive.

    Cheers Carlos!

No doubt!!!!  I hope the OP is still monitoring this thread and heeds your advice!!!  I follow the "suspenders and belt" approach myself.
