Q: Mac crashed trying to save HD but hitting input/output error

HI, I really hope someone can help me I'm at my wits end...

my mac suddenly stopped working, I went to disk utility and after many failed attempts to repair it, tried to back up my Macintosh HD onto an external hard drive via restore. After 4 hours of copying files at about 40 % it said it cant copy due to 'input output error'. I have no idea what to do. The output file is GUID... I can't afford to lose all this data and my machine is far from fully backed up. Any help

wpuld be appreciated.
