Q: connecting apple airport utility to a mac

I was connected to the Apple Airport Tower (3TB) for a long time and used same to backup 3 MACs.  After installing McAffee today, I can't see the Airport hardware and backup can't find it.  I am, however, able to connect on-line remotely through the tower (WI-FI). I also don't see the Airport in my finder window on any computer.

OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

McAfee is not needed on a Mac and will create issues that have not existed before. The software should be uninstalled according to the manufacturer's instructions as soon as you want to get things back to normal.

Thank you Bob.  However, I want to keep an Internet and virus safety program on my MACs.  I've had problems where Malware programs enter on my son's computer and mine when doing simple upgrades for previously loaded programs.  Just had one today when upgrading where a phishing virus routine entered.

I know that MAC's are better at keeping viruses out but when scams come through, etc., it is great to know there is a program that needs a positive response.

PLEASE HELP, without telling me to uninstall.

I'm sure that I am not the only one who has installed McAfee on a MAC and they're working.

    Thank you.

Since you are making significant changes to the Mac operating system, please post in the Yosemite forum to find out all of the reasons why you would not want to install McAfee on your Macs. The forum link is just below.

    OS X Yosemite

If you decide to leave McAfee on your Mac, you will need to get into the McAfee program to try to tell it not to block the network connections which it is currently doing. As it stands, you do not have an AirPort problem, you have a McAfee problem.

Your Mac already has a firewall and when McAfee installs and uses some other security method you end up with double firewalls.. this gives major issues..

Most Mac anti-virus software is written poorly and causes massive issues..

You also need to be clear.. anti-virus software is of limited usefulness in blocking say phishing exploits which are very much a choose to install and use yourself.. most anti-virus programs cannot prevent you downloading and installing web based exploits.. the trick is simply don't click on them.

There are several user tip's on sensible protection of a Mac computer. eg

    http://www.thesafemac.com/mmg/

Antivirus protection and Mac OS X

Viruses, Trojans, Malware - and other aspects of Internet Security

For every software you add like McAfee there are downsides.. and the blocks it introduces are such as to make most Mac people decide against it.

Thank you Bob Timmons and LaPastenague.

I was hoping to be able to use McAfee to protect out MAC Air and Pro computers.  So I did not like your responses but will heed them and un-install McAfee.  I will follow the links you suggested and hope for the best.

I should have known NOT to go for a third virus checker program.  I previously got rid of MacKeeper and Kaspersky because of problems developing down the line after having each installed, serially/at separate times.

I guess it's true:  Installing different virus software to solve the same problem and expecting better/different results WAS the hight of my insanity.

    Thank you both.
