Q: Photos out of order in Events after iOS 8 update

I have an iPhone 5s that I just updated to iOS 8.  I sync photos from my Aperture library on my Mac, which show up as a "Events From My Mac" album under "Albums" in the Photos app on my iPhone.  In iOS 7 and before, events synced from Aperture would show in reverse chronological order, which made sense.  Upon updating to iOS 8, all the events are in a random order.  I have events from 2008, followed by 2010, then 2009, then 2012, then 2008, etc...

Has anyone else run into this issue?  I know that I'll probably have to resort to telling iTunes to stop syncing photos, delete the "iPod Photo Sync" folder from inside the Aperture package, then re-sync all the photos, but before I go through all that trouble, I was hoping someone might have an easy fix.

Oh no - update to 8.4 has returned synced events from OS X iPhoto to random order - sigh..... OS X 10.10.4 and iOS 8.4 (iMac and iPad 3)

    Nooooooooo, say it ain't so!!!

Shoot, I already upgraded all my devices to iOS 8.4 and OS X 10.10.4.  Luckily, I haven't needed to sync photos yet, but I probably will in a couple weeks....argh.

I updated to iOS 8.4.1 and OS X 10.10.5.  Now I can't sync new photos to my iOS devices; in iTunes, under the Photos section, the checkbox to sync photos is unchecked.  If I try checking it and start the sync, it begins, but then fails with the message that it "could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish".  If I leave that box unchecked so no photos are being synced, then it syncs fine.  All my previously synced photos are still on my iOS devices, but it seems I can't sync any new ones.

    Anyone else experiencing something similar?

Thank you!!  I only had the "Photos.sqlite" file, but once I deleted that from my phone, I re-synced all my photos (took forever!) but now the new photos have synced.  Hopefully new ones will continue to sync.

This will be one step to add to the photo syncing toolbox; thanks!

Just for information, after I've restored my iPhone again, the faces are again out of order. Even with IOS8.41 the faces are still out of order.

Yeah, faces have never been in order since iOS 8.  Don't think that's going to change any time soon.  Hopefully iOS 9 will fix that, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

    *EDIT/UPDATE*

OK, so I just checked my Faces and they're all in order!

Here's what happened to my phone recently:

-After upgrading to iOS 8.4.1, new photos would not sync.

-Deleting the "Photos.sqlite" file on my phone and re-syncing the photos fixed new photos syncing.  (This may have fixed the Faces order, but I did not check for this)

-I got a replacement iPhone 6 Plus, and restored from backup.  Had to do two syncs before all the photos would sync.

-Replied to @Harry468's post and checked Faces on my phone just in case, and to my surprise, they're in order!

So either deleting the "Photos.sqlite" file and re-syncing fixes it or doing that and restoring from a backup fixes it.

I'm on an iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.4.1 syncing with Aperture 3.6 on a Late 2013 27" iMac running OS X 10.10.5.

I've tried the deleting of Photos.sqlite but the restore of the file took about 4 hours and then no albums were available, even the faces album wasn't there.

After syncing nothing changed, so again backup and restore. The problem is, I can't sync all photos in one row, because the sync is crashing. So I've made a inteligent album with all the faces and sync this first, because it has only 25,000 photos. Then I've started step by step the other albums to get finally all my 91,000 photos to the phone. This action takes me 2 days. And now almost all faces are in the correct order (only 10 names are out of order). Lets see how long this will last.

    I'm on an iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.4.1 syncing with iPhoto 9.4.3 on a 2012 15" Macbook running OS X 10.8.5.

Hm, I'm "only" sycning just over 23,000 photos, but all my photos sync in one go.  Previously, I had to sync at least twice to get all the photos to sync (the first time, it would sync some random subset and on the second (or third) sync, it would sync the remainder.

I'm glad you got it working, albeit it with a lot of effort.  Hopefully iOS 9 this week won't mess up photo syncing for us anymore!

Apple won't solve bugs, they only bring new stuff, that will fail soon.

So with IOS9 the faces are still out of order.

I updated to iOS 9 yesterday and so far, my faces and photos are still in order.  *fingers crossed they stay organized!*

If the faces are in correct order, they will be in the same correct order after updating to IOS9. But if your faces are out of order (which they are on my iPad), they will stay out of order after upgrading to IOS9.

If you have more than 60k of Photos, you will not be able to sync them in one row. But only if the photos are synced in one row, the faces will be in correct order. Slightly increasing of your photolibrary can be handled more or less good. On my iphone I have about 1500 faces and 10 of them are out of order. On my iPad none of the faces are in correct order. Maybe I have to sync the ipad again but I'm afraid that then the iPhone won't sync well again, because they use the same iPod photo cache in the iPhoto library.

I think re-syncing your iPad will fix it, but yeah, I understand your reluctance to do so.  When I was sorting all this out, I was nervous too (I used my iPad as the guinea pig instead of the iPhone) but it worked out for me, luckily.  I think if you were to restore your iPad, it would use the updated cache, since that is what your iPhone is presumably using now to get the (mostly) correct order of things.

Alright, so iOS 9.1 broke Face ordering for me. Ugh.  Not the worst thing in the world, but still annoying, since it was fixed for a little while at some point.

With the release of OS X 10.11, I switched from Aperture to Photos, since Photos will now allow metadata editing, like adding location data to a photo after it's taken.  Upon syncing to iOS 9.0.2, the "Events from My Mac" folder was gone from my iPhone, but it now listed all the albums (converted from events in Aperture) in a row beneath the "Recently Deleted" album.  Which was fine.  But now with iOS 9.1, the "Events from My Mac" folder is now back, but everything in there is out of order and Faces are now out of order.  Additionally, the "Recently Deleted" album is now beneath all the albums from Photos on my Mac, which means I have to scroll past hundreds of albums to get to that folder.  Once again, not the end of the world, but still odd and annoying nonetheless.

The saving grace is that the albums are at least in order, so I can still go through my synced pictures in order on my phone.  Whew!
