Q: iphone 5s drops internet when connects to wifi with netgear router

I have a problem with my iPhone 5S and my router Netgear D6400.

My old router died (dgn3500) so I went to by a new one and I got a Netgear D6400. Setup of the new router went ok and I started connecting all my other devices via wifi (2 apple TVs, iPad Mini 2 with iOS 8.4, Lumia 930). All ok until I tried to connect my iPhone 5S (with iOS 8.4.1) as well. When I do, iPhone connects with no problems, Wifi signal is strong and stays connected but internet drops really slow. The funny thing is that when I connect my iPhone, internet becomes slow also on all other devices. When I disconnect the iPhone, internet comes back at full speed an all devices. WiFi connection instead does not have any problem and I can still transfer files or stream hd videos from the pc to the TV at high speed. It only affects the internet. Same happens on 5 Ghz wifi or with 2,4 Ghz.

I've tried the following.

  • changed wifi channel,
  • changed wifi security (from wpa aes to wpa tkip),
  • changed DNS server on both the router and on the iphone to 8.8.8.8
  • reset all network settings from the iphone,
  • deleted and reconnected to wifi from iphone,
  • set up an access point with a different router and have the iphone connect to the access point instead of the main router.

All the above did not produce any result. I've read somewhere that there might be an issue of compatibility between the router and the firmware of the wifi antenna of the iphone 5s. Is it true? if so, how can I fix it?

any ideas? I really do not know what else to do.

Thank for your help.
