Q: iTunes 12.2.0 have deleted all of my playlists and most songs...

I just upgraded to iTunes 12.2.0. and ALL of my playlists and most of my songs are now gone! I have tried to restore my previous iTunes library by Timemachine, but that did not help. I still have all of my music and playlists on my iPhone. What to do???

This was a great fix for me.  I'm still not sure I got all my music back, though.  However, the things that seem to be missing, I have on CD.  I surely hope Apple is listening to the complaints here instead of concentrating on their new iPhone and watch.  There are those of us who still want our music!!!

Richard's fix didn't work for me -- lost all my music & playlists. Won't be using iTunes or Apple music any more. Seems like the last iTunes update wasn't tested first!!! Crazy!!!

Try doing a 'System Restore' back to before you updated iTunes. OR 'Time Machine' as I think it is called on Macs.

VERY DISAPPOINTED IN APPLE!  12.0 UPGRADE RESULT:   PLAYLISTS VANISHED!

Numerous hours putting my playlists together and GONE within a few moments!  WHY??  How can your programmers be so incompetent??  Is this how it's going to be with Jobs gone?  Are you guys the new incompetent Microsoft??  And where is the fix???  Sounds like this has been a problem for some time.  I don't trust Apple anymore and OBVIOUSLY YOU GUYS DO NOT CARE because there still is NO FIX!  I DO NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH THIS CRAP!  When you have something working LEAVE IT THE ______ ALONE!  Oh, and nice with the auto back up, sure does a lot of good backing everything up AFTER YOU'VE DELETED EVERYTHING! Seriously?? You could not program to back up a few months of files and save them for just in case? Seems dumb to me.

Very frustrated. Tired of always trying to fix computer related problems THAT USE TO WORK!!

Agree or not, there's not much to be gained by blowing off steam in this forum. The people here are just users like you, and quite often are able to help sort out problems -- but they're not Apple, and they're not to blame for anything.

There's a built-in feedback feature in iTunes 12 (in the menu under iTunes > Provide iTunes Feedback). There's also an Apple feedback site: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Richard that's your opinion, there's plenty to gain by blowing off steam and the first is it feels good. How did you get the impression I was blaming "users"??  I think it’s clear 100% of my anger and frustration are aimed at 100% Apple who owns 100% of this website (not the users).  Also, providing feedback has not done any good but make things worse; I can’t think of one time in the last 2 decades where I actually felt heard or understood.

    I had the same issue.

You know Apple knows what they're doing and they try to lock out all other music that isn't purchased directly from them.

    Frustrations continue...

I agree, Apple knows what they are doing and they do not care.

It's hard to watch these days HOW ACCEPTING people are when clearly being taken advantage by the big corporate world. Where is the outrage anymore??  These days people are like civil obedient drones.

How else can you explain all the so-called upgrades in recent years that end up as frustrating downgrades? We users shouldn't have to be here trying to come up with a 120 step process for fixing Apple's 12.0 problem that deletes OUR Playlists. While my situations is frustrating it will only be 8-10 hours to fix, but for some of you Diehards it will be hundreds of hours! Years of passionate effort "GONE" like the Joker scene in Batman.

IF Apple really cared, this problem would have been solved long ago along with an apology  Big companies like Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, Intuit are always tightening the reigns to control us and where are the options to go else where? Not many... While Richard Grant above (I can tell he means well) suggests giving companies feedback, over the course of time it's a recipe for insanity because we rarely ever feel heard.

Message to Apple, on their Apple owned, Apple website forum here:    FIX IT!

    Nothing's simple anymore..

    Hello everyone!!

This is the first time I try to give a solution, so please bear with me. The following worked for me:

What has happened is that iTunes replaced the desired Library ID with a new one iTunes creates after updating it to 12.2.x. What you need to do is:

    Mac:

    1. If iTunes is open, quit it.
    2. Hold down the Option key while you open iTunes.
    3. In the window that appears, do the following:
      • Choose a different library: Click Choose Library.
    4. In the window that opens, open the iTunes folder.
    5. Then open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
    6. Select the newest one from the list of previous libraries and click open.
    7. If iTunes doesn't open by itself, try to open it again without holding down the Option Key.
    8. You're all set!!

    Windows:

    1. If iTunes is running, exit iTunes.
    2. Hold down the Shift key.
    3. Then, from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
    4. You'll see a message that says Choose iTunes Library.
    5. Then open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
    6. Select the newest one from the list of previous libraries and click open.
    7. If iTunes doesn't open by itself, try to open it again without holding down the Shift key.
    8. You're all set!!

    ...hope it helps!!

    Hi,

While this works it tends to end up with a mess of confused files and folders nested within the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. Better is to copy the required dated library file up to the main iTunes folder and rename things so that restored file is called iTunes Library.itl. Then use alt/option/shift-start iTunes if needed to open the newly restored file. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.
