Q: Restoring Backup On MBP Using Carbon Copy Cloner

Hi I have a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8. I need to completely wipe it and replace it with a Carbon Copy Cloner backup I have on a My Passport Ultra portable hard drive. I have not done this before, how do I restore from a portable backup?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Just reverse the direction of the Carbon Copy Cloner backup

HOWEVER, I would suggest making one more backup.  If the existing backup is the good data, then back that up to another device before wiping your boot disk (this is just a suggestion).

Boot from the clone on the Passport (boot holding the "Option" key, and select the Passport device as your boot device.

Run Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility and erase your original boot device.

Launch Carbon Copy Cloner, specify the source as your Passport, and the destination as your just erased disk.
