Q: How does Apple Watch work on a cruise ship?

I was thinking of buying and Apple Watch but was concerned that it may not work properly while on a cruise ship. Anyone have any experience with using it while onboard? Does it still tell the correct time? I will have my phone in Airplane Mode most of the time since I didn't want to be charged any roaming fees.

Thanks for help in advance.

    Hi

With your iPhone unavailable, you can still do the following with Apple Watch:

    • Use the watch (ie tell the time), alarms, timers, and the stopwatch.
    • Play music from a synced playlist on Apple Watch.
    • Keep track of your activity (stand, move, exercise) with the Activity Activity icon app.
    • Track workouts.
    • Display photos from synced photo albums.
    • Use Apple Pay to make purchases.

Use Apple Watch without its paired iPhone

It should suffice not to enter the SIM code for your iPhone, but avoid air plane mode. Air Plane mode disables all communications, even the GPS and Bluetooth. And you cannot use any free Wi-Fi, if you use Air Plane mode.

Your watch will tell the correct time, if you set the time zone manually on your iPhone and the wach can connect to the phone by bluetooth.

I've just use watch and iPhone successfully paired without paying roaming fees for two weeks. I just did not unlock the SIM.

THanks. I mispoke there. I will disable cellular since cruise has free wifi to connect to so you can use their onboard app.
