Q: Can no longer play music over wired connection after ios9 update.

First day after updating to iOS9.

Now I can no longer play music in my car via USB/Lightning cable.

2015 Honda Accord

Bluetooth music works, but it's useless as the volume is so extremely low I have to maximize the volume in the car and it sounds horrible.

This worked yesterday in the car with iOS8.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9

    Hello andrewhhhh,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you're having with playing audio from your iPhone through your car's stereo system after the update.  I know that if I couldn't play music from my iPhone, my commute would be much more difficult.  In order to get this issue resolved, I'd like you to please follow through the steps outlined below.

    If you're using Bluetooth

    1. Check your car stereo's user manual for steps about pairing with a Bluetooth device.
    2. On your iOS device, swipe up to open the Control Center, then tapBluetooth icontwice to turn Bluetooth off and back on.
    3. Restart your iOS device.
    4. On your iOS device, unpair your car stereo. On your car's display, unpair your iOS device and any other devices. Restart your car and your iOS device, then pair and connect again.
    5. Update your iOS device.
    6. Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.
    7. If you still can't connect, Contact Apple Support.

    If you're using USB Playback

    1. Restart your iOS device and your car.
    2. Connect your iOS device to a different stereo USB port (if you have one).
    3. Try a different USB cable.
    4. Update your iOS device.
    5. Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.
    6. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a specific third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, Contact Apple Support.

So after several restarts of the phone and different trips, it just started working randomly.  The only thing really different is that it started working after the first time I had connected the iPhone to iTunes on macbp.

So basically for anyone else this is happening, I don't know if it was just random timing, or if connecting to iTunes on the macbp actually made a difference.

    Same problem here.

My iPhone 5S worked fine on USB in my Volvo V60 up until the latest version of iOS8.  I've updated to iOS9, and now the phone reports that the USB hardware is unsupported??

I can still charge and play via Bluetooth, but I want the USB connection to work as I can then access the playlists etc easier via my car controls.

Updating the car's stereo system is not only expensive, it shouldn't be needed as it worked before, and Apple needs to fix this bug in iOS9. Updates are not worth it if they dissable functionality previously present.

Can I revert the phone to iOS8, and how do I do this if the above cannot be fixed?
