Q: iPad stuck in infinite reboot loop after iOS9 update

Hi,

 

after updating my iPad2 to iOS9 it is now stuck in an infinite reboot loop. Tried all tricks and tipps I could find on the internet. Every time I attach it to my laptop iTunes tells me that there is a problem with the iPad and starts a new update. But at the end of the update process everytime the same result: infinite reboot loop. And I definitely do not want to restore it to factory settings.

 

Apple, please help. More and more people are complaining about this issue here!

I finally found a solution!

This solution worked perfect for my iPad2 which previously had some version of iOS7. The problem seems to be a update from iOS7x to iOS 9.

But contrary to harpreet0singh´s solution I didn´t press restore but update. First I updated manually iOS 8.4.1 from https://ipsw.me/8.4.1 , afterwards I updated manually to iOS 9 with the appropriate file from here: http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/09/16/the-secret-to-skipping-long-ios-9-downlo ads-and-problems/

Did not have to restore any data or apps from backup, everything is here :-)

    Hi

    We don't work for Apple we are all just users .

    Turn ipad off then try a Reboot press & hold power button & menu button

    Hold both down until you see Apple Logo .

    Then try to update over your WiFi .

    Thx Brian,

     

    I hope that Apple is monitoring the support forums in order to detect hot topics. Most big companies do such kind of SoM-Monitoring.

     

    Thx for the advice, tried all of this, nothing works. It reboots, and reboots, and reboots...

    And I am not alone with this problem.

    Now I will let it reboot until the battery is empty, maybe this kind of total hard reset helps.

    joww, can't thank you enough.  Since I neglected to make a backup before updating to iOS9, the ability to "update" instead of restore to 8.4.1 saved me.  Couldn't find this documented anywhere else but it worked like a charm.

    Hi

    May I recheck the instruction to fix my issue.

    I upgraded iOS9 from iOS7.x, it succeeds till the step to slide to upgrade. I cannot move slide to upgrade.

    With this instruction to restore iOS,

    How I can update manually?.

    I it from iTune? .. The Restore Backup button is not active since it never been back up before.

    Restore from iCloud is not possible since Find My iPhone is enabled.

    Please advise

    Hello joww, many thanks for the info.  Unfortunately I'm very in-experienced with fixing this type of problem.  What do I do after downloading the firmware file? Am I supposed to be able to browse to the file from within iTunes? Clicking on the iTunes restore button still prompts me to do a factory reset.  Double clicking on the downloaded file from Finder does nothing.

    i cant do the steps of downgrading to iso 8.4.1 and then restoring the backup.

     

    The issue here is that, my itunes backed up my phone again when i updated it to ios9 and overwrote the older ios7 backup. (i realised this after downgrading to ios 8.4.1 and itunes saying that the current OS is not new enough to restore the backup.)

     

    And now im stuck in an infinite loop...

    I think im stuck with a non-functioning iphone till apple fixes this : /

    Think I've answered my own question.  Pressing Alt (on iMac) or Shift (on PC) while clicking Restore iPad allows browsing for the downloaded firmware file from within iTunes.

     

    Also, my original problem occurred with 4th generation iPad running iOS7.  iOS9 appeared to install correctly, it was only after a couple of hours that it got stuck in a reboot loop.

    Thanks for posting this link.  I was able to recover my IPAD 2 and restore all but a few hours of game play.

    This worked for me!!! Thank you.

    With 1 modification for me: Mine was still stuck in the loop, even when trying to Update or Restore from a downloaded iOS 8.4.1 firmware file. The trick was when you do the "force restore" from the iPad and go through the prompts connected to iTunes, when the option to "Set up as new iPad" or "Restore from ___ copy", you must first set up as new, and let it finish the process. THEN - restore from the saved point. That combo kicked me out of the endless 'updating - you're almost complete" loop.

    Agree with the main point also, from everything I've read elsewhere it's specifically an issue from an older iOS (6 or 7) and jumping to iOS 9.

    I had the same problem with my iPad 3 CDMA and this solution of updating from the firmware file with iTunes and DFU didn't work.

    After an hour of effort it still does the same ***** - reboot loop.

     

    After updating 8.4.1, it didn't really respond. After a restart, it remained stuck on the apple logo. Then I tried the same again. It didn't work. Then I tried updating with version 9. Now it's back to the old reboot loop.

     

    I think the moral of the story is if you don't have a backup you are effed. I had gone to apple store before trying all this and that guy says there is no way this can be done unless you restore. I don't want to restore since I have pics and videos that I haven't backed up. That guy apparently doesn't know about the DFU mode and this update method.

     

    Apple after Steve Jobs is just pathetic. I have around 7 iDevices in my home and this is what happens if you have an issue. No Help from Apple!!! Uneffing believable.

     

    I'll wait for the next release 9.1 or 9.0.1 and do the same iTunes/DFU update with it. I can't restore.

     

    FU Apple. My iphone 4s and 5s are not getting an upgrade to 6s. Thanks for opening my eyes.

    I tried quite some things from thread, but can't get my iPad2 running.

    Before I will restore it completely and lost all my data :-( I have a question: do you know if there is any possibility to backup all the stuf from iPad on your laptop if it is in this loop?
