Q: Taptic engine no longer taps - just sort of faintly buzzes

Hi there,

I have a stainless steel  Watch from Day 1 and the taptic engine just seems FAR weaker than before, barely noticeable unless you pay attention - and no longer 'pops' in that tap way, but rather buzzes.

i recal there was talk of some being delayed shipping because of this at the start, but anybody else having issues?

Apple Watch 42mm, watchOS 1.0.1

    Hi

Check your settings either on the watch (Settings > Sounds & Haptics) or via the Apple Watch app on your iPhone (My Watch > Sounds & Haptics).

Ensure that you have selected Haptic Strength to the middle or far right positions and, if you wish, also enabled Prominent Haptic to receive an additional tap ahead of certain haptic alerts:

Adjust the intensity of haptic alerts on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Then try restarting (or, if that doesn't help, force restarting) your Apple Watch:

    • Restart Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; Drag the slider to turn off completely; Afterwards, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
    • Force restart: press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

If that still doesn't help - or if the problem recurs - make a Genius Bar reservation at your local Apple Store to have it checked:

    Or contact Apple Support:

Thanks for for your fast reply with  all your tips, Jonathan. Sadly I've reset etc and tried to increase intensity etc. Doesn't change anything.

At first I thought it was in my head as time has passed and novelty of having buzzing on wrist may be part of it, so didnt do anything about it but I really don't think it is as I'm missing all the alerts and the maps when walking is frustrating.

I've now organised a repair (posting it off via UPS) to AppleCare as Im not close to an AppleStore.  Hopefully a repair (or are they just replacing them?) will prove helpful. Ill reply when i get it back. I'll miss having the watch for a few days, but better have a nice tapping watch on its return

    Thanks again.

Just to follow up: Apparently it was all in my head as they returned it saying they had checked it and found it worked normally..  I feel a bit of an idiot now, but hey, I really did get the impression it was not reliable or as powerful as i had found it at first. Oh well.. I hope the next version of the watch has a more powerful Taptic engine, but in the meantime: Thanks again for your replies. I appreciated your help.  Best, W.
