Q: Router Type: Port Restricted

Recently I have nor been able to do video chat via Messages. I have tried from serval routers types including Apple, and even from different countries.

This has worked perfectly - but now it has stopped. (same problem from my Imac and Macbook pro - they use the same iCloud account.)

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance

    Hi,

It has become a "Known Issue".

All Video and Audio chat plus Screen Sharing in iChat (AIM and Jabber plus Bonjour account) and the same in Messages go through a server run by Apple called SNATMAP.

The two ends are connected by a text based Protocol called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) which is also used by VoIP connections).

Apple controls the server(s) used by iChat and Messages from these Account types.

Testing of the SNATMAP server reveals that it no longer responds to Pings (however due to those being used in some forms of Internet attacks that makes some sense)..

If you try LAN based Connections  (Bonjour chats or AIM to AIM on different computers but on the same LAN) then the connections work.

This is because the outgoing invite has already made contact with the SNATMAP server.

You will be getting an Error Log which you can look at the details which it normally asks you to send to Apple.

Use the Feedback page http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html  (It is this one even though is needs updating - put everything wanted in the lower drop downs in the Free text area).

The Port Restricted Router bit is not relevant to this.
