Q: iTunes 12.3 installation error on Windows 10

The Apple Software update tried to update iTunes 12.2 Windows 10 64-bit to iTunes 12.3 but failed. I downloaded the installer (iTunes6464.exe) and tried to install iTunes. Every time it is failing with an error message that says - "package required to install could not be run". I thought uninstalling the iTunes 12.2 would help, but it didn't. And now I am without iTunes on my computer because I can't install the new one!

Can someone please help?

If you have a 64-bit system have you tried iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards)?

What exactly are your symptoms and error messages?

I resolved by repairing the "apple application support (64-bit)" program.

See the method in Install missing components. What component fails to install, and what error message does it give? See this post for steps to produce detailed logs of the installation which may reveal why iTunes won't install.

What version of Windows are you running? 32-bit or 64-bit?

Which build of iTunes are you trying to install?

What is the name of the installer; iTunesSetup.exe, iTunes64Setup.exe or iTunes6464Setup.exe?

I posted a reply but it was removed due some advertising nonsense.  What worked for me is used a third party uninstller that also removes the registry settings.  But stating the name of said product would be considered advertising , so you can send me a private message i guess and I'll tell you what I used?

But simply uninstalling the products may not be enough.  You have to make sure the lingering registry settings are also removed.  Anyway the uninstalled did fix the issue for me

I had the same problem upgrading to iTunes 12.3, but with the added wrinkle that I couldn't repair Apple Software Update because the cached copy of AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi was missing. It apparently got deleted by some cleanup program. In case you also run into this problem, you will have to get a new copy of AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi from the version you have installed to run the repair. THE 12.3 VERSION OF AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi WILL NOT WORK. (No, really. I tried that. It was not fun.)

    1) Find a copy of your version on one of the old software archive sites. If you upgrade regularly that should be 12.2.2. Make sure you download the right bit size for your OS, 32 or 64 bit.

    2) Open the installer file in your favorite ZIP program. If you don't have one, get one. I like 7-zip since it is free and has no adware or spyware. DO NOT run the installer; run your ZIP program and open the installer from within the ZIP program.

    3) From inside your ZIP program, extract the "AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi" file from the installer file, and remember which folder you extract it to.

    4) Go back and try to repair the Apple Software Update again. When it tells you it can't find AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, hit "Browse" and navigate to the folder where you extracted it in step 3 and then proceed through the rest of the repair.

    5) You should now be able to install iTunes 12.3.

Good advice. See older versions sections of my troubleshooting tip for direct links to the recent installers. There is a link to 7-Zip in the Install missing components section.

I've tried all that. But old iTunes won't uninstall when try the uninstall and reinstall method. All comes off but the itunes. Keep getting message try to use network source unavailable. When I try to instal new itunes I get error about network source unavailable. And when I cancel the message reads Old version cannot be removed". I've tried everything to remove it, but nothing changes and I'm now without itunes on PC.
