Q: HBO GO won't activate on Apple TV but it's activated on my MacBook Air

I just uploaded the newest version of Apple TV and when I go to HBO GO it tells me I need to activate HBO GO and gives me an activation code. I already have an active HBO GO account on my computer but I went ahead and followed the steps I was told. Once I finished the steps, my computer said "SUCCESS.... you may now start streaming HBO GO on your Apple TV". Yeah. Not. I went back to HBO GO on my Apple TV and the same thing happened again, I was prompted to activate. Now I have done literally everything I can think of and I have been doing this for four hours, I have read blogs, apple community, Apple TV help, HBO GO help, you name it and nothing. I have also done the following:

I made sure my Apple TV and HBO GO are on the same network...Check

I logged out of HBO GO and logged back in...Nothing

I restarted both my computer and my Apple TV...Nothing.

I restored my Apple TV to it's factory settings...Nothing

I restored my Apple TV to it's factory settings AND went through the activation process again...Nothing

My cable provider is AT&T UVerse and is compatible and offers HBO GO on Apple TV. So what the heck?????

Can somebody PLEASE help?? All I want to do is start watching Empire Boardwalk from the beginning and its not on Netflix yet and I can't get back to season one on my cable. Additionally my Airplay playback is really slow if I try to watch it on my computer through Airplay!

Trust me...I've tried it all.

I'm an idiot. There are 2 services... HBO GO and HBO NOW. I subscribe via apple tv and that correlates to only the HBO NOW. HBO GO is activated through your TV subscription.

was having this same problem.  did these steps (update wasnt necessary but did it anyway) then restarted and went to "activate device" in settings of HBO GO. success!  good luck. infuriating problem.

One thing I was contemplating was just airplaying my iPad (which always worked) to the Apple TV.  Just a way around the problem if anyone hadnt thought of that.

ok so i've read all three pages on this thread.  However none address the issue i have.  I go to to re-activate my Apple TV on hbogo.com/activate, select my provider (suddenlink) and enter my login information successfully, then nothing happens.  I've done this on safari (Mac and iOS) as well as Mozilla, and IE11.  Nothing happens after that.  I never get the chance to enter activation code, ON ANY BROWSER!

Its so frustrating  because i was just using this device over the weekend!!!.

BTW, i've cleared history, caches etc.

    Any help is much appreciated!!!

Same problem as others.  Repeated attempts to activate my 2nd gen Apple TV device.  Despite getting the 'success' message on both laptop and Apple TV, i can only watch HBO Go on he laptop.  On the Apple TV, the films/programs start, with the parental guidance information, but then a notice saying 'Checking for more videos' appears, along with the spinning/loading wheel.  After that it just reverts back to the previous menu page. V frustrating.

If you have an iPad, log into HBO GO.  Once logged in go to the upper right hand corner and there find a drop down menu that says, "IPAD or APPLE TV", click on APPLE TV and it will immediately transfer you from your iPad to your Apple TV.

Hope this helps solve your problem.

Prinaynay, you were very helpful to me, thank you. I mean it turns out that the simplest answer, was the answer, we just had to wait for 3 extra seconds.

    THIS WORKED INSTANTLY;

I just deleted then re-downloaded the HBOgo app, went through the activation process, and BANG!

May seem simple but I tried everything before that worked.
