Q: Ipad Mini Model 1455 - Update to IOS 9 - Unknown Error Occured (50)

Hi,

I have attempted to upgrade the IOS on my Ipad Mini, model A1455, to IOS 9 on a 2015 IMAC and recieve the following error "The Ipad, "Ipad" can not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (50)."  I have followed the suggested troubleshooting as specified by Apple (install most up to date OS, update itunes, exit itunes, restart the iMAC, changed cables, changed USB ports, try again,) at Resolve iOS update and restore errors in iTunes - Apple Support without sucess.  There are no advanced troubleshooting tips for error code 50.   I have also attempted to restore my IPAD using an IPSW file to no avail and get error code 1 (which I am also unable to resolve following recommendations, which are basically the same as the general suggestions).   Right now my Ipad mini has been transformed into an unusable brick thanks to the IOS 9.0 update process failure.   Would anyone have any suggestions on how to restore my ipad to a usuable state (either IOS 8 or IOS 9 would  be a wonderfully suitable alternative to the current state)?

Many Thanks.

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.

    1. Turn off and restart the mobile device.

    2. If the device is connected via USB, connect it to a built-in port on the computer, not to a hub. If it's already connected to a built-in port, try a different one. Also try a different cable, if you have one. You can also try to sync over Wi-Fi.

    3. Delete the iPod Photo Cache. Quit and relaunch iTunes.

    4. Check the names of all albums and slideshows in iPhoto or Photos. The names should contain only plain letters and digits, not any punctuation marks or other characters. Rename them if necessary.

    5. Remove the soundtrack from any photo slideshows that have one. If sync now works, you may be able to restore the soundtracks.

    6. Repair or rebuild the iPhoto library or the Photos library. Be sure to back it up first.

Yes, I only have the red itunes message and can not use the Ipad mini.    I took it back to the Apple store and the folks at the genius bar were also unable to successfully complete the upgrade to IOS 9.0.  They offered a replacement at a reduced warranty price for the same model, but I ultimately decided to upgrade to a Mini 2 to get a better screen.  So, basically the IOS 9 upgrade process has COST ME $ 300+ which I find very frustrating as my Ipad worked perfectly fine before attemping the upgrade.   I still have the old mini and am interested in options to restore it to life if you or anyone else can come up with a solution.
