The Watch Activity function changed after the OS1.0.1 update for me. Since receiving it on April 24, the Activity function tracked Move (calories) and Exercise (minutes) fine, increasing as I played tennis then decreasing with less activity.  After the update which I did last week, it no longer tracks accurately. The same tennis activity that showed exercise minutes and calories used now acknowledges 4, maybe 7 minutes of exercise for a full 1 ½ hours of tennis. I've followed the calibration steps and still don't have the normal functionality as described by Apple Watch here that was present before I did the update.

SInce the update, the Activity function only tracks well if I activate a Workout. I'd prefer to track the Activity without a "workout", yes?

Yes, I agree the watch 'should' note via the heart rate sensor but perhaps that sensor is not able to do this at all times. We just do not have facts from apple. Also, the many variables.

I spent a long call with iOS Sr. Advisor from Apple Support who explained that the Workout function helps users track their activities better...  I do not want to start and stop a "workout", I just want to see how my normal activities throughout the day (walking, tennis, golf, etc.) were tracked for exercise minutes and calorie consumption. That is what the Apple Watch site indicates is the Activity function. That is what I had before the update. Bit frustrated here.

When did you get yours? I've had mine since Day 1, April 24. My husband just got his and it was already updated so he doesn't know how it worked before. His doesn't track "brisk" activity (very aggressive tennis) unless he starts a Workout.

I'm having the exact same trouble that you are having. My heart rate is at 119 bpm ( my fat burning level) when I am briskly walking and my exercise ring says one of 30 minutes after a 30 minute workout. Apple needs to get on this right now. I open up my exercise app and I use that, so that tells me right there that the exercise ring doesn't take into account any of the other Apple apps to get its information for the day. I expect more from Apple.
