Q: How do I disable iCloud keychain?

Every time that I uncheck the checkbox in System Preferences > iCloud > Keychain, it automatically reverts to a checked checkbox after a second.

The only other Apple device I have is an iPhone 6, and there are no messages on my iPhone waiting for an approval!

On my iPhone, I encounter a similar issue: whenever I tap to de-activate iCloud Keychain,

Nothing happens and the Keychain status remains "On":

I've tried signing out of iCloud on my iPhone, but that has served no purpose!

Finally, for some unknown reason, Apple have removed "iCloud Keychain" from the categories available in the "OS X Yosemite" community! Apple are really starting to annoy me!

Also you can use the iCloud security code to approve iCloud Keychain. After that you should be able to disable it.

    Nope! That isn't working...

I enter my iCloud security code on my iMac, it then sends another code to my iPhone.

I then enter the newly received code on my iMac and I see a message saying that the iCloud keychain is being set up.

And then, I'm back where I started, unable to uncheck the checkbox!

You mean iCloud Keychain is still waiting for approval?

There are a number of threads on similar problems, and at least this one

Can't disable iCloud keychain on Yosemite

has several solutions that seemed to work for some people.

I'm having this exact same issue. I have an iPhone 6, MBP, 2 iPads and an iMac and have turned off iCloud keychain on all devices except the iMac. When I try and disable it on the iMac it turns on again right away. If I enable iCloud Keychain on my iPhone 6 then it automatically turns off on the iMac but then if I reboot the iMac it turns on again. I located several other threads about the issue like this one http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/179062/unable-to-sign-out-of-icloud-on- osx-yosemite-or-disable-keychain but none of the suggestions worked for me.

I spent several hours this morning trying all kinds of things but eventually gave up. I was running 2 factor auth but I've disabled it to make troubleshooting easier and I think I'll leave it off for now. On the iMac I've logged out of iCloud completely, deleted the ~/Library/Application Support/ iCloud folder, and rebooted, logged back in and the problem persists. I can't get iCloud keychain to stay off on the iMac.

I started trying to fix this because once a week or so my iMac asks me to login to iCloud again about 10 times and then create an app specific password but it doesn't say for what app. Hopefully disabling two factor resolves the weekly requests to login to iCloud but I'm still am unable to kill iCloud keychain on my Yosemite iMac. Note that I found my system.log was also full of the CloudKeychainProxy events shown in the linked article above.

Its driving me bananas. Sure hope El Cap fixes this for me.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

              View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

The Console app doesn't seem to be functioning properly!

Shortly after clearing the display, it auto reloads yesterday's system log!?!

Trying to uncheck iCloud Keychain in System Prefs doesn't seem to cause any changes in the system log!

Instead of "All Messages", here's what I found under "system.log" after carrying out the following actions:

    1) I opened System Prefs

    2) I clicked on the iCloud icon

    3) I unchecked Keychain (it quickly auto-re-checked!)

    4) I tried signing out of iCloud (and got the error message below)

    5) I quit System Prefs

Remove "Kaspersky Security" by following the instructions on this page. If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different. The product includes a Safari extension that may not be removed by the uninstaller.

Back up all data before making any changes. Never install any "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" software again.

The following steps (which I found on this page: I can't turn off iCloud keychain) eventually allowed me to uncheck the iCloud Keychain on my iMac:

    1. Move contents in ~/Library/Keychains/ to some backup location (WARNING: this will remove your passwords from the Keychain, hence the backup)
    2. Remove contents of ~/Library/Caches; reboot; empty trash again (since some items can't be deleted before a reboot)
    3. Uncheck the Keychain item in the iCloud system preferences.

This solution was provided by Apple Support so it bares the least risk.

I did notice however that many of my Safari extensions disappeared, so I'd recommend making a list of them prior to proceeding with the above steps.
