Q: Clips won't playback in event browser FCPX.

Hi there,

My clips will not play in my Event Browser. JKL & Spacebar will not work, neither will hitting the play button in the preview window.  Skimming, however does work. Should the clips be proxy media?  Would that help?  Has anyone ran into this before!  Grrrr, really frustrating!  I am on 10.0.8, but this happend before the update.  Thanks

Final Cut Pro X, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Actually I spoke too soon. That workaround worked for about a day, then the problem recurred and now the workaround doesn't seem to be working. Back to square one. Any more suggestions from anyone?

It is not entirely clear, but I suppose the problem you mention is clips not playing in the event browser. Is that it? Did you try: delete preferences, revert to original layout, delete the Layouts folder in ~/Library/Application Support? (I would try all three again).

Also: does the problem manifest in a different user account? (my guess is "no")

One other thing you can try is to run OnyX and let it do its thing (make sure you use the version appropriate for your OS).

Same for me. This problem suddently started and after reading this post, I selected 'Revert to Original Layout' and suddenly problem resolved. Now I can put the viewers onto the second display again and everything still working. Thank you!

SOLVED for MacPro 3.1 connected to external sound module (Fireface 800)

I had no playback in FCPX under any circumstance.

I realized the last time quiting FCPX I had turned off external sound module first/ turned sound module on and, Voila!

No brainer of course, but the project I was working on had no sound so why turn on the sound module?

The way FCPX moves for a slit sec when you try to start playback reminds me of systems where an external sync is used as Master Sync (MTC, SMPTE, Word Clock, ADAT, TCO)  If you are having problems, something involved with sync could be your culprit. Try changing sound settings or start other sound/video related apps to see if you can give sync control back to FCPX.

This worked for me too.  All I had to do was turn off the Event Viewer window and all was well.

I hate FCPX so much because of those bugs but because of you guys I´ll carry on.

Yes, thank you. Switching my audio monitoring helped. Still won't playback on my preferred audio monitoring (breakout box over thunderbolt) but I can work on that later...

Well done Fooser! Been having the same problem for the last 3 weeks on my brand new FCPX and read many comments about it, mostly recommending reinstalling.. which seemed a bit dramatic. Read you post, went Window>Revert to Original Layout and it's back to Normal. Thanks Dude.

Yeah I had the same problem, if you are using more than one monitor. go to Window menu and revert to original layout. Problem solved. Thank God.
