Q: iOS 9 Siri no longer beeps, just vibrates.

I watched a fair amount of videos to make sure this wasn't the new standard. I knew that the iOS 9 Siri would vibrate when activated, but it no longer makes the double-heaping sound when it starts or stops listening. I made sure my phone isn't on vibrate or silent. I send myself an iMessage and the Tri-tone played properly. I also noticed that I'm not getting sound for notifications from a third party app, Kik, when the banner appears, not even a vibration. I feel this problems are linked. Any idea on how I can at least brony back the double-beeping sound for Siri?

And your setting on this is? Settings>General>Accessibility>Vibrations

CelticPaddy is indeed correct.  I turned off the "vibration"  IN ACCESSIBLILTY and NOT in "SOUNDS".  My beeps came back immediately.

I have no idea how this setting got turned on in the first place but turning it off solved the problem.  It appears to be by design but since I don't venture into Accessibility all that often, it may have been there a long time and it never bothered me.

    Life is good again....

    Thanks for the tip!

I don't know how you found this, but well done - it has brought back Siri's beeps for me too - and I never set this myself, either...strange.

Just forwarded this to my neighbor who responds...

"**** I never go in there. How did that get turned on? I can't believe that fixed it? Why don't they put all the vibration stuff under one option? Did you turn that on? *** Apple?"

Now he's convinced I turned it on somehow, though I did not. Nor did I turn it on, on my phone. So the question becomes... what made it activate?

So far no amount of me tinkering with Siri, and vibrations will cause it to turn back on.

Hmmm....  According to Accessibility, "When this switch is off, ALL vibration on your iPhone will be disabled, including those for earthquake, tsunami, and other emergency alerts." Consequently it seems to me that what this has done is work around the bug. By getting rid of all vibration period, the phone is forced to beep for Siri feedback.

So if I want vibrations for ring tone, but not for Siri, can't have that anymore.

I really don't think this is intentional. I think the option is meant to be intentional.

    I asked siri:Why don't you beep anymore?

Her answer is: No need for beeps... you can just press the button and start talking.

    funny!

He doesn't, but that isn't surprising. Look at his past posts (like this one: Ringtone Sham)...

The suggestion of turning off Vibrations in Settings -> General -> Accessibilty does not restore the old behavior of Siri beeps when the Ring Switch is off.  Instead that setting turns off all Vibrations on the iPhone when the Ring Switch is enabled (and instead making audible noise for siri beeps, phone ringer, text sounds, etc).

I did like the old Siri beep behavior because a lot of the time I would active Siri without looking at the screen.  I feels like a bug to me, especially since my iPad Air 2 makes the beeps, but the response from Siri when you ask "Siri why don't you beep" leads me to believe they made a feature change, but then why does my iPad Air 2 behave differently?  Surely I can look at the screen there too?  Or maybe my iPad Air 2 still beeping is the bug.

    Dear Apple,

Please give us back the Siri beeps.

    Thanks.

this needs to be added as a a toggle switch setting fix under the general settings for SIRI I do not want to disable all vibration as i constantly keep my phone on silent and notifications voicemails and texts would go unnoticed without vibration. However even when not on silent the beep does not happen, plug in my earbuds however and the beep returns. even with vibration toggled on THIS IS CLEARLY A SOFTWARE BUG! squash it

It is NOT a software bug; this is by design. You can express your displeasure with this new feature directly to Apple at this link: http://www.apple.com/feedback

We are all just users on this forum and can't "squash" anything.

AmishCake is right, we need to submit feedback that this change reduces usability and eliminates real-world use cases where Siri is used without looking at the phone.  I just submitted mine
