Q: Stuck at "slide to upgrade" IOS 9

Hello,

I have an ipad 3 operated on ios 7.1.

I pressed installed after Apple sent me an ios 9 upgrade notification and left it overnight. I woke up this morning and discovered that my ipad was stuck at a bright white “slide to upgrade” screen. It didn’t react when I attempted to slide over it.

I tried several times to:

- turn on/off ipad

- enter into recovery mode

- restore ipad from itunes

- restore backup from icloud

I would get the update completed screen (after slide to setup) and when I pressed continue, it would lead me to the same overly bright but blank screen with nothing but "slide to upgrade" at the bottom.

Any help/ anyone else with the same issue?

Same.   I think my iPad is too old for any of these workarounds.

It will not enter DFU mode.  I think it is stuck in the post-install, pre-setup state of the restore from iCloud.  Any reboot mode (Restore or DFU) starts the re-installation process and ends with the following 3 screens 1. Hello   2. Update Compete   3.  unresponsive "Slide to Continue".    iPad remains invisible to iTunes, but visible to Windows File Explorer.  Complete dead end.  Hoping that at the Apple Store, it may work when hook up to an iBook/Mac versus a Windows based computer.  If not, its a paper weight.....

    Dear fellow users/colleagues,

I spent 2 days in a 'quest' on internet. Finally I found a working solution. NOT in a number of steps to do, but in a program, free downloadable and working.

Unfortunately a post here in which I mentioned the webaddress and the name were prohibited, so I will not even try to give it again.

In order to overcome this, simply send me a private e-mail and I will provide you with the detail in response.

    Regards

If it's the program I suspect it is, I gave it a try. Didn't help me get the one iPad I had stuck at the Apple logo going again.

Seeing and reading so many troubles with the same character, I think it is about time that Apple starts curing this.

option one could be a patch or a help program. (Which already exists, but may not be mentioned in this house)

option two would be a great, deep bow into rhe dust by Apple by which they admit this problem and cure i.

BEsides rhat, many users still wait on a solution to

upload files when in a webbased dorm

simple way to add (pdf or other text based files) to e-mail replies.

at this moment I am nit so happy with my iPad miji.

I lost 3 days before I had it functioning.

    Y.t

I've had the same problem. I guess that it all starts after you install iOS 9, and it asks you to choose a password. Then comes slide to unlock that doesn't work. I've spent the entire afternoon, yesterday, trying to solve it and I couldn't. I went to my phone company (in Portugal) and they said that I would loose everything because they would restore the system, and I had to register it as if it was a new iPhone.

I didn't settle for this option, so today I gave it another try and I think I might have solved it.

I restored the system, than synchronized the latest security copy, and when it asked for the password, I didn't choose one.

It looked like it was crashing again, because the apple and the progress bar wouldn't disappear, but then I started seeing flashes of my screen. It took a while but finnaly it was over.

Big mistake: I tryed to choose a new password once the phone was operational, and guess what... It went right back to slide to unlock that doesn't work. Now I'm restoring my phone for the 10th time today.

I have been having continuing problems with upgrading my iPad 3rd generation to ios 9.  I encountered the "slide to upgrade screen won't go away" problem.  I did what the Apple support article on that subject said, restoring via iTunes.

    1.  It looked like I resolved that by restoring my iPad using ITunes.  When the "Hello" dialog started on the iPad, I went through the dialog there and asked that it be set up as a new iPad rather than updating.  I did not set a passcode as I had seen elsewhere that some people found that to be a problem.  After that was finished, it all seemed okay.  No data, of course, but it appeared to be operating normally.

    2.  I had made a backup in ITunes before starting this process; I was on iOS 7 before, never having gone to iOS 8.  So, the backup is from IOS7.  In an effort to get my data back, I then applied the saved backup onto my newly minted iOS 9 ipad, set up as a new iPad.  That all seemed to go okay as well.  All the data returned, as did the apps.  I used the machine all day today getting used to it.  It would occasionally show the hanging Apple logo screen when I changed some settings, particularly when the changes involved location services.  But, the number of times that happened decreased over the course of the day and I thought I was over the hump.  Unfortunately, I powered the iPAD off after several hours of use.  When I powered it back on, it got into the endless loop of the hanging Apple logo screen again and would not come up.

I am going to attempt to restore again using this same process and just try not powering off.  Of course, I can't do that forever.  I am just hoping that Apple will release an update to iOS 9 that fixes this problem before I have to power off.  I am also now downloading the ipsw files to iOS 8.4.1 in the hopes that it is still signed and perhaps I can revert.  Doing that makes me nervous, though.

I am wondering if anybody else has any other ideas?

Yes same problem since Sunday , have spoken to Apple several times a day since Sunday morning  who finally admitted this evening that it won't work until ios 9.1 update becomes available! I have tried everything to restore and backup but no joy. I've now got a useless iPad. COME ON APPLE SHOW A BIT OF RESPECT FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS AND FIX THIS ASAP.

Good to know that at least Apple recognizes the problem.  I would guess, though, that they probably didn't hazard a guess as to when iOS 9.1 might appear?

Dang @melih85 - always always always backup before you do an upgrade. I don't trust ANY software, Windows or iOS, to make major upgrades without a bug.

I also do an added step of backing up the backup, in a separate folder away from the iTunes default location. In this case it saved me, because when I installed as new, it overwrote my backup automatically. So I closed iTunes, copied my preferred copy (with pictures, apps, settings, etc) back to the default backup folder, then when I opened iTunes and plugged in the iPad, was able to restore it correctly.

I spent the past two days doing what everyone said.  I have a 5s and wasn't getting anywhere. All I did was create a new use on my computer, download the newest version of itunes and install the new ios9.01 they just released. I lost nothing expect for the names on my contacts (but the texts were still there so I can easily figure out who's who).  All my apps, pics, everything was there and it's all working fine now.
