Q: The folder “Seagate Backup Plus Drive” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.

I can see my external hard drive contents when it's connected to my Apple Extreme AirPorter, but when I connect it directly to my MacBook Pro, I get the following message:

The folder “Seagate Backup Plus Drive” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.

Since I back-up photos & videos, it takes too long to transfer my files from my laptop to my external hard drive over wi-fi, I need to connect it directly to my computer.  Please help, since my start-up disk is almost completely full and I need to dump a bunch of photos/videos onto the hard drive

PS:  I recently upgraded to OS X and also switched internet providers (hence the reason why I'm not using my Airporter anymore) . . .

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
