Q: Photostream album disappears in Photos app

Hello!

Problem description:

Photostream folder disappears in Photos app all the time. To turn it visible again I uncheck and check again the box System Settings-iCloud-Photos-Photostream. Only to have album disappear again a bit later.

- iCloud Photo Library turned OFF

- Photostream checkbox is always CHECKED, no matter if album dislayed or not.

- I don't see any patttern in time when Photostream album disappears - after prucedure described above album is there for some time, even after reboot. But after some time it - poof! - disappears again.

- System is recently reinstalled clean (less than 3 months) and is sustained clean of software trash.

YES! I've been suffering from this problem since the introduction of the photos app! Its a great app/software, but with this annoying problem!

Like yourself, i have to manual uncheck and check the my photo stream box in the preferences. Closing and opening the app makes my photo stream folder disappear again... WHY....

Yep - I have exactly the same problem.

Sorry - I've no idea how to fix it permanently.

boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair both the disk permissions and disk.  Reboot normally.

Then disable My Photo Stream  and iCloud Photo Sharing in the System/iCloud preference pane

and in Photo's iCloud preference pane.

Reboot and reenable both respectively. See if that will keep the MPS working permanently.

I tried this repair method OT - didn't fix the problem for me.

The MPS disappearance seems to occur most often at launch.

I notice 10.10.5 is now available - maybe that will fix it.

Turning the Photostream checkbox off and on again makes Photostream album in Photos app reappear, but in a few minutes it -poof! - disappears again!

Did you try the solution described above at least to make album to show up?

PS No solution for the problem, yet. Still disappears.

Are you using iPhoto as well, concurrently to Photos?

If you enable My Photo Stream in iPhoto or Aperture, it will disable it in Photos. Also, if you switch between Photos libraries. Only one Photos Library will show the My Photo Stream album.

Has anyone resolved this yet?  I'm on iMac 10.10.5 with Photos only, and my photo stream is just gone.

Also, edits made on my Mac are not saving to iOS or to iCloud.  Same with making edits on iOS - not saving to either of the others.

    So, two questions for Photo!

Here are a three possible fixes that worked for others:

I do not know if anyone ever runs into this issue anymore, but the Apple Engineers helped me fix this recently.

They had me do the following:

Turn off Photo Stream in your user account:

    Quit iPhoto

Goto System Preferences > iCloud > Uncheck Photo Stream.

    Close System Preferences

Then deleting the entire ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/ directory.

Open Terminal and type in cd Library

then type open . (open space period)

navigate to Application Support and delete the iLifeAssetManagement folder.

    quit terminal

Then turn photo stream back on in their photo library.

open iPhoto and click on Photo stream in the left column.

    enable photo stream.

It will take some time to download the cached photos but this resolved my problem of having 0 display and no photos in the "My Photo Stream" area when any of my other devices showed new photo stream photos without any problems.

Re: Shared albums won't show up on new Photos on Mac

    in response to mwbaker210

    Guys,

If you are still facing this issue after rebuilding, try this:

    1. Close Photos

    2. Go to System Preferences, iCloud, Photos and disable “My photo Stream” and “iCloud Photo Sharing”

    3. Go to folder /Users/YourUser/Library/Containers/com.apple.cloudphotosd/Data/Library/Applicati on Support/com.apple.cloudphotosd/services

    4. Delete com.apple.photo.icloud.myphotostream and com.apple.photo.icloud.sharedstreams folders

    5. Enable “My photo Stream” and “iCloud Photo Sharing” again.

    6. Start Photos. After a while, the shared photos will start coming.

    Helpful

I had this same issue.  I fixed this by:

    Closing Photos.

    Opening Activity Monitor.

Killing the process titled "Photos Agent"

I opened up Photos again, and my Photo Stream immediately updated.

    Hello! None of this helps.

Turning Photostream OFF and ON again in iCloud settings does make it apper for a short time, but after some time Album disappears again.

Even clean OS X reinstall doesn't help.

    Hello Old Toad,

I started with Approach #3 as it seems to be the easiest. And after a few tries it WORKED!  Thank you!

Photo Stream album reappeared after I delete the photo agent but *poof* disappear as soon as it appeared.  I think after 5~7 tries, it's finally back permanently (at least for now).

    Thank you!
