Q: My mid 2010 MacBook Pro has an NVida issue. I think this is a graphic card issue. The cpu crashes and restarts while utilizing video with graphics. It also get very hot.

What can be done about this issue? My MacBook Pro has been crashing and restarting over the past 3 years and getting more frequent lately. These are the things I've done:

  1. Ran disk utilities on many occasions. Seems to help, but then again not for long.
  2. Reinstalled OSX. This helped for the longest time, about two months.
  3. Problem Reports always start with Panic Report : as seen in attached report (screen shot).

You have the misfortune of having a model identifier 6.2 MBP which is having GPU problems. There was a replacement program on these models but that has expired.

You have the following options: You may have the logic board replaced but it will be at your expense. You may download and install the following application which will enable you to disengage the discrete GPU and operate with only the integrated one. This will be at the expense of graphics performance.

Yes, the program has expired, so I just paid over $300 to have the repairs made by Apple Care. Ouch! ***** that this issue has existed on and off for the past 3 years and some fixes pushed the problem down the road long enough push my mac out of the program date. Same model of the ones within the program, but out of sale date by a few months. Now, my MacBook works great, but I went ahead and upgraded OS X to El Capitan. My Scanner and credit card swiper (a scanner of sorts) is not recognized. It looks like it's working but it does not. The scanner mfgr. is working on the issue. Until then, I'll revert to Yosemite. It's definitely El Capitan and not the scanner driver. Thanks Apple for missing the mark on the OS X upgrade.
