Q: Calendar events not syncing after upgrade to watch 2.0

Upgraded my Apple Watch to v2.0 yesterday and immediately noted that the calendar complication was not functioning as expected. In fact, after using the complication to reach the calendar app, the only calendar with data was the birthday calendar. None of my work (MS Exchange) or personal (iCloud) calendars are available. Interestingly, calendar invites and notifications still come through the watch post upgrade, just not the events themselves.

I have tried a reset of the contact/calendar data, erase and restore from backup, erase and setup as a new watch, erase, unpair and restore from a previous (watch os 1.0) version. All to no avail.

Logging the issue in the hopes that someone else has seen this and has a workaround. Apple support recommended that I go into the Retail store, but I have doubts that this would accomplish much of anything.

This is impacting me too.. I have mobile iron from work which syncs to Exchange via active sync, pre upgrade all worked fine - post upgrade its all gone..

However - I have found a way round it.. using the paid app FANTASTICAL - this app works .. all my calendars now sync and it has a glances screen with a nice view of the calenders...

Feel totally let down by apple - spent an hour on the phone and the best the guy could do was tell me to uninstall my exchange connection..

Paid a reasonable amount of money for a watch that apple rendered fairly useless in a badly delivered update...

Tempted to just take it back and get my dosh back.

Glad to hear that Fantasical works for you. It's a great app. With my corporate MDM, all third party calendar apps do not have access to corporate calendars. So that one has never worked for me. :-(

I agree this feels like a big let down by Apple. This is a core function of the watch - without it, the device loses a tremendous amount of value.

Follow-up to earlier post.........I worked with Apple support, who unpaired and repaired the watch.  We reset up the watch from a backup.   After these steps one of my subscriptions and my Birthdays from contacts shows up.   NONE of my iCloud calendars are synching and my work exchange calendar is synching.   I will contact support again today.

BTW, my wife's Apple Watch is doing the same thing.   She had none of our iCloud calendars.   She does not use exchange mail or calendar on her phone or watch.......So it can't directly be related to exchange (MDM)

Good info - thanks for coming back to post. Interesting that it is affecting your wife's non-work calendars too. That gives me some hope that the issue resides on Apple's code side.

I have this issue too. I replied on another thread with the response from my call from Apple enterprise support: Re: Calendar Not Syncing

Apple does acknowledge an issue with MDM profiles which have the restriction "Opening documents from managed to unmanaged apps not allowed" if you have this then calendar entries are not synced to an Apple Watch that has been updated to v 2.0

So my advice is if you have such a profile then do NOT update Apple watch to 2.0 until this issue is sorted or your companies profile is changed. Because if you do there is no rolling it back.

If you have this issue Please tell apple about it, they only fix things that have a high volume of impact.

    Regards,

    Dan

Thanks for the further info. However, I don´t think the MDM restrictions are the root cause because alternative calendar apps are working very well.

E.g Fantastical is syncing with the watch without any issues. So if the restriction "Opening documents from managed to unmanaged apps not allowed" are the reason, it shouldl affect any other 3rd party app as well, in my opinion. I hope Apple will solve it soon but Fantastical announced already that they are working on an update to include complications as well. If this will be launched I can live without the native calendar app.

Fantastical won't work for long. As soon as they release their native 2.0 watch app that gets the events from the watch instead of the phone then you'll have the same problem.

I can confirm I have the "Opening documents from managed to unmanaged apps not allowed" restriction in my MDM. Also, I setup a new phone yesterday and did not put the MDM on and everything is working fine. What's annoying here is that it stops syncing for ALL calendars. I can imagine there are ones that the MDM cares about like work calendars but others should not have the restriction.

Yes - I have the same restriction in my device management profile. The impact (as mentioned) is both work and personal calendar entries are blocked. Thanks for posting the additional detail.

Hi - Just got off the phone with Apple support and they have logged my case again.   The only thing additional I would add, they expect a new Apple iOS update to fix the issue.   They are working on it and thanked me for my patience, "Hang on a little longer and they will have a fix for it......."

I agree with MKruse and dgfraser.......If you have this restriction in a Profile, log the case with Apple.  The more logged cases, the quicker it will be escalated and fixed.

He did not give me a timetable on an update, but he said it was imminent.

    Cheers,

Hi MKruse - We re paired her watch and phone again and the calendars started showing up overnight.   So I was wrong, it is related to the MDM profile restriction.

    Hi all

    This is fixed in WatchOS2.01.

I have just downloaded and tested, and the previously missing calendar events are now coming through OK
