I tried everything: deleting the device from iCloud, deleting it from find my iPhone, hard reboot, putting it in recovery mode, but the only thing i was able to make progress with was the 10 second window idea. RIGHT AFTER rebooting the device, enter the passcode and simultaneously click the restore iPhone icon in iTunes. Remember to be super quick! I even got the option to take a back-up. Although its still in progress and says 1 hour (down from 3 hours to 1 hour), the situation is better than carrying a non working device.

Lawrence, tch, tch, tch, you are being a bit arrogant, aren't you?  Are all US sites trustworthy?  I am sure there are Montenegrans who are decent, trustworthy people and possibly love computing.  And the downloads have checksums that exactly correspond with Apple's, so I think I will take my chances.

My scan tools are state of the art and are capable of detecting malware across different operating systems.

And I am not going to respond to any more of your offensive remarks, so please refrain from continuing this conversation.

    Thanks,

Barry from South Africa (we also have some dodgy, suspect websites, but the majority are trustworthy).

Hi Dan, I have a working tablet!

Go to icloud.com and open "Find my iPhone".  Then ERASE your device.

Then search for iOS 8.4.1 (I can't find the download on Apple's site) and download it.

Start iTunes.  Then switch off your device.  While pressing the home button, insert the USB cable into your device.

The device will then go into recovery mode.

On iTunes press shift and click on restore.  This will then ask for the location of the iOS 8.4.1 IPSW file.

Then allow the phone to upgrade to 8.4.1 .  When this is done, you will be given the choice of restoring your backup or creating a new phone/tablet.

This will take a while, but then you will have a working device.

in my case, I am waiting for iOS 9.1 or later before I upgrade again.

You do not read very well, do you?

The site mentioned is Apple Support.

Same issue for my iPad and it got resolved , though had to restore to factory setting. You need to connect to iTunes , switch off and switch on , enter the password , and immediately click the restore then this message will not show up and restore process starts.

I had the same problem on my iPad 4 (Wi-fi + cellular), but eventually managed to solve it. Here is what I did.

    1. I synchronized my iPad with iTunes (latest version), more than a few times, until it showed up that there was iOS9 installed on it (check Summary tab).

    2. While still conected with iTunes, I have putted the iPad in DFU mode (Device Firmware Update) (see www.ipadforums.net/threads/dfu-mode-for-dummies.27489). (First, you have to turn off the iPad, then to press the Home and the Power buttons togheter for exactly 10 seconds, then to release the Power button and to continue to press the Home button. After 10 to 15 seconds, the device enters on DFU mode. The screen is blank, no information on it.).

    3. Right away, a message from iTunes pops up, informing you that the device connected is on recovery mode and in order to syncronize it you have to first restore it. Press OK.

    4. I choosed the restore option, that supposedly would restore my iPad to factory settings, that is back to iOS6. I thought that this was however better than no iPad at all.

    5. Suprisingly, after less than 30 minutes the restore procedure was completed and I could start configuring the device. I choosed to configure it as a new one, as I failed before to recover it from a backup (although, using a different procedure, not this one).

    6. At a certain step, I had to choose one of the fololowing 3 options: 1) to identify the device from a different device; 2) to use my pin (first, I tried this one, but Apple had to send me an SMS with the verification code, which it failed to do for 30 minutes. So, I went back and choosed the 3rd option); 3) to skip the keys needed to recovery my passwords. After that, everthing went very smoothly.

    7. My iPad was back in bussines and running iOS 9, no flaws of any kind.

I hope that this will work for others out there too.

II've had the same problem/s with very limited success. I was able to put phone in dfu mode and restore it as a new phone. I went into it and turned off find my phone and then I tried to restore from a backup but after doing this it ends up with the 'slide to upgrade' screen again. I've tried this tat least 10 times and everytime is the same outcome. Have lost  EVERYTHING. So fristrated and annoyed along with everyone else...bad Apple.

Good news!! Version 9.0.1 solved the issue: I had also the problem of not being able to "swipe" and continue. What I just did is the following:

    1. Plug the ipad 2 to the Mac and then open iTunes.

    2. Download from iTunes the iOS 9.01 version

    3. Upgrade the version, keeping the ipad connected

    4. Wait around 10-15 minutes for the upgrade takes place

    5. Voilá

No information was lost, eventhough I had no ipad of 1 week.

I hope this helps the community
