The best way to get an answer is to contact Apple Support directly. This is a user to user forum and you are not speaking to Apple here. Use the Contact Us link at the bottom of this page or Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. Be sure to back up your device before taking or sending it to Apple.

    Thanks Ralph for your message.

The problem is that in my country there is the trend that shortcuts are taken and if I have the right for something I must get it. Abroad I had friends who had the whole iMac replaced. I wanted to escalate the case internationally to get the correct information. Apple Support website always lead to the local representative, and i want to go beyond that. I was trying to find an international email address....the headquarters of support....yet to no success...I do not want my iMac repaired and fiddled with if I have the right to have a full replacement. I am afraid that in my country they try to change HDD risking other problems in such an all in one system whereas in other countries customers are treated more fairly and usually in such case a full replacement is given. It is less than 6 months old!!!

Generally, the warranty  includes that Apple will repair or replace the malfunctioning part(s). This is an excerpt from the US iMac hardware warranty:

If during the Warranty Period you submit a valid claim to Apple or an AASP, Apple will, at its option, repair the Apple Product using new or previously used parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability, (ii) replace the Apple Product with a device that is at least functionally equivalent to the Apple Product and is formed from new and/or previously used parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability, or (iii) exchange the Apple Product for a refund of your purchase price.

From this page (where you can choose your country):

    http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/

Realistically, they may replace the product after three attempts to repair the problem. In my case, it took 4 attempts over a period of 4 months during which time the MBP spent most of the time traveling or at the repair facility until they finally agreed to replace it when I asked. Unless there are many problems, they will replace the dead hard drive.

iMacs don't have international warranties like portables do, so you have to go thru the proper channels in your country, your warranty is only valid where you purchased it.

Can you post the source of your information please. As far as I know, the regular hardware warranty covers both iMacs and Macbooks/Air/Pro worldwide.

However, iPhones are only covered in the country where they were purchased.

Perhaps only in countries where Apple Stores are, other countries that only have Authorized Resellers have to go thru the proper channels in their country. I said what I said about the warranty because I also have an iMac 5K and it started to have problems, there was no way I could get US or even Latam support in Miami. I live in Chile, we only have resellers.

The reseller where I took my iMac to get serviced under warranty told me that warranty for desktops is only valid in the country of purchase or in case there is an Apple Store, closest one is Brazil, they told me that they could not service my computer because I did not buy it in Brazil.

Another thing, countries with resellers don't even sell AppleCare anymore, only countries with Apple Stores.

I find that incredible and have never heard that; of course, I can't say anything about that because I do not live there. I'm not at all sure that you received the correct information. I would try to contact Apple and actually ask them about the warranty terms.

As incredible to you as it is, that is the way Apple products are sold in countries where only have resellers, you can ask and they will tell you the same thing. It is very nice to have full support when you need it, right?
