Sep 24, 2015 8:43 PM in response to yami😁by angusmom,YEPPP!!! At the top right of my Safari Browser is the Big Green Circle with Black W. Drop down menu when I clicked on it. Checked off Pause Secure Keyboard Entry. Went back to Twitter to key in a tweet. Hit Command Control Spacebar and pick my now cranky face symbol -- two hours figuring this out. Thank you for posting your answer, which I wouldn't have figured out in a hundred years, nor would the Geek Squad. Not even sure AppleCare would. Seriously Webroot.... Emojis are a threat?! ARGHHHH. This is my first MAC product. Everything is new!!! This has been the first 'hard' thing I have encountered and it is not Apple's fault!

Sep 25, 2015 6:44 AM in response to angusmomby Tom Gewecke,I'm curious: How did you wind up with Webroot on your machine? Certainly apple doesn't put it there.

Sep 25, 2015 11:13 AM in response to angusmomby Chris Cogdon,I'm pretty sure the "Characters" tool is a "input method extension". That has frequently been one of the attack vectors for the (rare) trojans that have appeared with the mac over the years. An input method extension can both generate and _intercept_ keyboard strokes, including entered passwords. So, Webroot goes ahead and disables them all and/or provides a different input communication channel (as well as possibly introducing its own vulnerabilities )

Mar 16, 2016 12:57 PM in response to VikingOSXby yodaprincess,Has anyone found another solution? I don't have Webroot, and I have no problem opening the Emojis, but when I click on them (and yes I know where), be it one or two (or a hundred *lol*) times - nothing happens.
It used to work til a while ago, and I haven't found a way to make it work again...

Mar 16, 2016 1:04 PM in response to yodaprincessby Tom Gewecke,DDoes drag/drop work at all? Do you also have the problem in TextEdit?

May 6, 2016 8:58 AM in response to yodaprincessby Raymond288,This is the real problem that nobody seems to have has addressed so far.
I can open emoji however when I click or double-click on any icon, they do not appear on my text.
Does anybody have an answer?
Thanks

Does this happen in TextEdit?
Does drag/drop work?
Do you have Webroot garbage installed?

Are you talking about Pages 4 (09) or Pages 5 (13)?
Are you talking about outgoing emails you are composing in the Mail app?
And the other questions you may have missed:
Do you have this problem with TextEdit?
Does Drag/drop work?
Do you have Webroot installed?

May 8, 2016 5:39 AM in response to Tom Geweckeby mittgenstein, although the response is not directed at me, since i have the same problem, i'll answer:
pages 5.6.1 (and working with OS X el capitan, 10.11.4).
same problem when composing emails in the mail app. whether replying or composing a new 1: no difference.
yes, i also have the same problem in textedit.
drag & drop works (as does copy/paste).
if i have webroot, i can not find it (and certainly never installed it knowingly).
in addition, i suddenly can no longer hold down a key and have special characters appear (e.g.: french accents or german umlaute such as à, ç or ä, ö, ü). instead the letter just repeats itself as long as i hold down the keyyyyyyyyyyyyyy - which is pretty annoying for someone who writes in different languages.
i know there is a solution as i encountered the problem with the keys before but i can not find it any longer.
y/help!
