Q: How can I remove a Parallels partition on my iMac?

I installed Parallels when I first purchased my iMac to be able to run a PC version of QB's.

I no longer use this program therefore I'd like to remove the partition created when I installed Parallels.

The Parallels partition shows up on top of the Mac HD partition in Disk Utility.

Can I remove this partition to enlarge my Mac HD partition?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

There is no need to make a partition for a VM. And, I have no idea how you would have created a partition above an existing Mac Partition. Are you sure that is a Partition?

However, I'm pretty sure you can't expand a partition upwards.

You'd have to backup, then re-partition the drive and restore.

Parallels is software and is uninstalled by moving it to the trash.

This is the beauty of a virtual machine like Parallels, there is no need to partition; otherwise you need to reboot into a partition like Bootcamp for example to run an alternative OS.

If in doubt about a partition  you can post the output from terminal, copy and paste:

    diskutil list

This will give you a list of partitions on your drive.
