Q: Home sharing not working after update to iTunes 12.1

recenty updated iTunes to 12.1.0.71 64 bit for windows 8.1, and home sharing no longer works with my apple tvs. i have an apple tv 2 with software 7.0.3(6917) and an apple tv 3 aalso on 7.0.3(6917). I have tried the usual troubleshooting. Restoring, restarting, reinstalling itunes, made sure all the neccessary ports are open both on my router and firewall. Still not working. I would appreciate any help.

Apple TV (3rd generation), iOS 7.0.3, null

Has anyone confirmed whether or not Home sharing works with the latest version of iTunes?  And I mean works out of the box.  No tweaks, no changing settings... does it work?  I was never able to address this issue so I downgraded to iTunes 11 and don't plan to upgrade until I can be confident that home sharing will still work.

I mostly use the feature when i'm traveling for work and have zero control over my network so I can't do any sort of router tweaks or things of that nature.  And quite frankly, I shouldn't have to.  To have home sharing working one day and then not the next after an update is unacceptable.

Spent 3 hours trying to fix this. I tried everything and can't get it to work. Used to work like a charm. This is so frustrating. Wondering if upgrading to windows 10 would help.

2 new port Rules (UDP 5353 and TCP 3689) in Windows Firewall worked perfect for me with Win10 Desktop and newest itunes. No restart needed. Works instantly no other changes needed. Typically windows geek sh*t ;-) Love it. Thanks BerettaBoy.

Would it be possible to get more details on creating those rules? Inbound or outbound or both?

    Hallo, yes inbound for remote.

2 inbound rules in the Firewall Desktop app. Got to inbound rules =>New rule => port => Done
My Win is in German. Don't know the exact descriptions but there is nothing to configure.
    Very simple.

I've NEVER had home sharing working on my ipad, and it's driving me MAD. I don't believe I need to change any firewall settings since sharing works PERFECTLY on my apple tv and an 8 year old windows laptop. I just don't understand how sharing can work flawlessly on an old PC but not at all on an APPLE iPad...

My iMac and Macbook Pro are now sharing.  Signed out or iTunes store and turned off home sharing everywhere, powered everything down and unplugged (computers and all routers/modems).  Started routers/modems up first, then computers.  Signed into iTunes and turned on home sharing.  The computers are now playing my music.  Haven't solved the problem with home sharing and my iPhone yet.
