Q: Windows 10 - 32 Byte Versioning and Boot Camp

Driver Related Question:   Based On Bootcamp only providing 64 Byte Drivers

Speaking Candidly:           Apple support is pointing to windows and windows is pointing to apple (no answer)

Question:                          Can I take the Windows 10 - 32 byte upgrade with my current configuration

My iMac's Configuration is as follows

Mac Early 2009 / Processor 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo

Mem 8gb 1067 Mhz DDR3   Graphics Nividia GeForce 9400 256 MB

Bootcamp Versioning 4.1.4586   Standard Boot Camp Create

Windows 10  / 32 Byte Compatability tool tells me (I am good to go) for the 32 byte upgrade

Microsoft requirements are much more lenient than Apple's which can be seen at Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support . Most of these are related to driver availability for your specific Mac which are certified for W10. You can take a chance like many others and try W10, and if it does not work, you can roll back to the the Windows 32-bit version you have.

Please also consider the following from the link...

Upgrading from 32-bit versions of Windows

If you have an existing 32-bit installation of Windows on your Mac, you'll need to back up your important files so that you can remove the existing Windows partition and install a 64 bit version of Windows.

    1. Back up any important files from your Windows partition.
    2. Use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the existing Windows partition.
    3. Then, use Boot Camp Assistant to install a 64-bit version of Windows 10 on your Mac.
    4. After you're finished installing Windows, copy your important files back to your Windows drive.

Loner,  I appreciate the feed back....

I also understand your mindset completely (anticipating doing the update / roll back option) with a worse case

scenario of a complete rebuild of bootcamp side to bring me back to where I was.

I have attempted to beta test various scenarios using virtual box with little or no success at the 64bit level and 32bit

    levels

I was somewhat hoping someone had my configuration, took the update and all went well for them.

But I guess if it went well they wouldn't be on the support forums :-)

If you look through the Bootcamp discussions, there have been several iMac/MBP 2010/2011 discussions about W10. As long as you have a good backup/restore strategy, it is definitely worth a try. Please post back on this discussion as you progress or have questions, and we can work through them.

On a positive note I have complete functionality using the VirtualBox (had to turn on NX functionality )

so beta test completed successfully.  Next step will be boot camp
