    Howdy monwen7925,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

I see from your post that you're not getting notifications for apps on your iPhone.  To help troubleshoot this issue please follow the steps outlined below.

Not getting notifications for a specific app

Push notifications require an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection. If you’re not getting notifications for a specific app, try these steps:

    1. Go to Settings > Notifications to verify that the app supports notifications. If notifications do not appear in the Notification Center, make sure that the Notification Center setting for the app is enabled.
    2. Make sure you’re signed in to your Apple ID.
    3. If you’ve recently installed an app or restored a backup, open the app to start getting notifications.

    Have a good one.

Alex - thanks so much for your reply.  I've done all the diagnostics prior to submitting to this forum.  I believe there to be a bug due to the fact that I did not have this issue in ios8.  The two apps are gmail and bbm (which I have to use for office security).  The problem is sporadic & occurs in about half the emails I receive as well as the bbm messages.  I believe others have had the issue with WhatsApp as well.  I'm just wondering if I should downgrade to ios 8 until the bug is worked out.  Again, thanks for you help.
