Q: how to use superdrive built into old mini from new mini

The newer mini is running 10.9.5.

The older mini is running 10.6.8.

Both computers are connected to the internet via the same router, with the old mini a wired connection and the new mini a wireless connection.

I bought a CD of Photoshop Elements, forgetting that I didn't have a superdrive on the new mini.

Can I establish a Home Network so that I can insert the CD in the old mini and read it on the new mini?

Thanks,

Owen

I had previously set up a shared network to allow the old mini to open files on the new mini.

Both computers have 2 accounts: mine and my wife's.

The computer name in the old mini's sharing window  is macintosh.kmf but the message below that name is: Computers on your local network can access your computer at: macintoshkmf.local.  I did not name the computer in the new mini's sharing window.

In the new mini I authorized file sharing and screen sharing; in addition on the old mini I authorized DVD or CD sharing.

I inserted the PSE CD in the old mini.

On the old mini, when I double-click the Finder icon, under devices I see Mac HD and the PSE Disk (but no Remote Disk??), and under shared I see Macmini+12 digits.

On the new mini, when logged into my account (I am the Administrator),  I double-click the Finder icon and open Remote Disk, showing macintosh.kmf

    (macintosh.kmf  also appears under Shared.

    When I double-click macintosh.kmf it shows empty.

Bottom line is I am unable to access the PSE Disk from the new mini.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks,

    Owen

I just added the same computer name  to my Sharing folder (macintosh.kmf).  Initially I saw 2 items in Shared>Macintosh.kmf in both computers: kmf public folder and ojf public folder.  When I try to open those public folders I get an error message:  illegal operation.  Thereafter the public folders no longer appear under Shared>Macintosh.kmf even though Remote Disk>macintosh.kmf(2) shows a 2 in parenthesis.

I am marking this as solved although the answer is incomplete.  I need to move on.

For the new PSE disk it was simple.  The additional step not specified was: after Finder>RemoteDisk on the new mini select the old mini (with the name given); after that select "ask to use", then go to the old mini and select "Accept" to grant permission.  I was then able to install PSE on the new mini.

When I tried to do the same with Audio CDs it was a nightmare.  Every few steps I had to repeat the routine ask to use/accept (With the old and new minis on different floors.  In the end I was not successful, so I loaded the music into a temporary library on the old mini and copied the iTunes files onto a flash drive to load into the new mini.

Once you go through this ask to use/accept routine once it should not be necessary to repeat it.

I may  buy the accessory superdrive for future use.
