Q: itunes empty

Mac did an update and now iTunes is empty. No music no apps nothing.

Did the following

  1. Quit iTunes.
  2. Go to the iTunes folder that contains the iTunes library files:
Mac: From the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, choose Go > Home. Open the Music folder, then open the iTunes folder.
    Windows: Navigate to \Users\username\Music\iTunes\.
  3. Drag the iTunes Library.itl file to your Desktop.

except I couldn't do number 3 as there was no file in the folder.

Help.

Are the media files gone too?  Look in iTunes > Media for media folders.  If media are gone you have no recourse but to restore from a backup.  Even if the media files are still there you need a library.itl file, though often you can get a recent one out of the Previous iTunes Libraries folder, remove the date part, and put it in the main iTunes folder.
