Q: Mavericks installer unavailable in Purchases section ?

Hi everyone !

Well, it appears that since yesterday, Mavericks installer (and previous OS X versions plus some other Apps like iPhoto or GarageBand) is unavailable in the Purchases section of the Mac App Store.

Is this definitive or just a pause to prepare El Capitan launch on this 30th September ?

MacBook Air (11-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), null

No one really knows why Apple chose to do that. We are users like you.

    Thanks for you reply.

While I can understand that Mavericks has made its time, I'm not sure this is the correct way to proceed. I'm even more surprised that still usefull Apps like iPhoto or GarageBand have also been removed without any warning.

I mean, this is very annoying for people that still have olds Mac and do not want (or simply can't) upgrade to Yosemite or El Capitan because they now have no option to download these Apps. And there's also no install DMGs to do it the correct way !

Leaving them in the Purchases section wasn't a big deal for anyone IMHO…

GarageBand is still listed in my list of Purchased apps, it is version 10.1

Any Mac that can run Mavericks can also run Yosemite or El Capitan (when it is released)

You could've made a DMG file of the Mavericks Installer at any time after it was released two years ago. There may still be some people online who could ship you a USB installer. You can also make a Genius Bar appointment and take the Mac in to have Mavericks installed.

My mistake. You are correct ! This only concerns iPhoto.

Any Mac that can run Mavericks can also run Yosemite or El Capitan (when it is released)

You missed the point here. It's not about what can run what, it's about what I want to run on what. If I choose to stay on Mavericks, I should still be able to download iPhoto on it from the Purchases section. Now, there no way to do that. No download, no installers.

I'm pretty sure the new Photo app (introduced in OS X 10.10.3 if I'm correct) won't run at all on previous versions. Even the Yosemite ones. It needs new frameworks for that. In other words, the only solution is to upgrade to 10.10.3 minimum.

Note that I don't really care since all my Macs are up-to-date and I'm not a huge user of Photos Apps in general. I'm writing this post from El Capitan GM and I'm not a nostalgic of stuff from the past.

I'm just… surprised. Apple did not used us to this .

    Thanks but don't worry !

As I said, I'm not a nostalgic but I am an obsessional archiver. That's for sure. So I must have almost all versions of OS X installers, even the ones from the Mac OS era and a ton of CDs/DVDs and floppy disks .

It won't be a problem to find somewhere a version of iPhoto that I could update (?) to run just fine on whatever OS X version I choose.

    Just more complicated .
