Q: iPhone 6 updated to ios9 screen goes black when I open an app

same same, my phone is experiencing total blackouts and im doing soft resets to recover it.

I have never done soft reset on im iphone6 for the past 8 months, and in 3 days after upgrading ive done 4 5 times.

Cant figure out what is triggering it, to give more information.

Actually upon reading one of previos posts, saw similarity: had bluetooth headphones on, so as with the calls the phone thinks that you are handling it through the headphones and turns off the screen. Anyway, kept the phone off for the night, now bluetooth off... So far so good

Updated to 9.0.1. One phone call made with normal cable headset and the issue is back again. Only wifi turned on, no Bluetooth since update. This has to end!!!!

I tried the iOS 9.0.1 update. I thought it fixed the problem. (Yes, the exact same problem, but mine seems worse when I'm coming back to an app using the new app switcher, but it happens on original launch and when I try to get back to an open app from the home screen. And, no, it doesn't matter how long you wait the screen doesn't "unblack.") It seemed to go away for a day, but it's back with a vengeance this morning. Restarts do seem to make the problem disappear for a while, but it comes back.

I, too, have tried resetting and reloading. It does not help. I normally do not allow my phone to provide diagnostics info, but I turned it on, now. Looking through the log files in diagnostics, I don't see anything to indicate that these errors are caught and logged. Hopefully, Apple is reading these posts and attempting to solve this. We have four iPhones in the family. Two have this problem (both are iPhone 5 devices, 64 GB and 16GB). They happen to be the only ones that have been updated with iOS 9. Coincidence? I think not.

Best of luck solving this, but this isn't our fault, and I suspect it's out of our control to come up with a fix or work-around. This is iOS based, and most likely beyond us in user land.

the black screen started with ios 9 and is not fixed with 9.0.1. this only happens with being on the phone. screen goes black, and I push all buttons and cant access phone. phone still works and cant hang up after ending call. have to do a hard reboot to access phone again. this only happens with phone calls and nothing else.

I have also noticed heavy phone static since ios 9.

i also believe that this major bug is IOS 9 based and difficulty onde update wouldnt just solve it.

i'm still on iOS 8 and I experiment the same issue. Trying to reboot with home and power button but nothing change.

I have the same issue here, every time i open an app the screen switch to black! Is this a joke? if it is i hope it won't last long!

This fix worked for me:

In "Display & Brightness" setting I changed Display Zoom from Standard to Zoomed.

The phone rebooted and since then no black screens have occurred. After changing back to Standard it still works without black screens.

Try changing Display & Brightness from Standard to Zoomed, or the other way around. It fixed the black screens for me

Just confirming that I experience this too!  Please fix to those who can!  ASAP or like today would be nice :-)

Nah, the black screen is back after trying the "Diaplay & Brightness" option Zoomed - reboot - Standard - reboot

I'm experiencing the same problem too. I just updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 9 yesterday and noticed the black screen instantly when I try to open an app. It's really annoying. Any fix for this Apple?

I have the same issue plus my phone vibrates a notification the volume is up or mute. Very frustrating I can't get an appointment until next week to have the camera fixed. I have the iPhone 6 plus 64GB.

EExactly the same problem here. each time after opening an app it acree goes black and I have to press home button to open the app again. Interesting thin is that the app remains in the same scree it ia supposed to be (for example when opening the browser fro another app, it remains in the page it was supposed to be)
