2015, august (iTunes 8.1.4) and still no solution... Mine touch id cable (so thin!) broke while replacing the screen, but after contacting Mac store by phone, by visiting; so much discussions but it comes down to this; your phone is DEAD. "Sorry sir, but you can buy a new one, with guarantee".......
Using iPhone since the first generations, have had 3, 4, 5 and 6 now. Never have needed the service, always jailbroken, hardware repaired by others or lately by myself, but never experienced such stupidity as the error 53 'hardware' problem....
I decided today that, after years of enjoying the good things of Apple phones (despite of the stupid incompatibility with other devices) it's finally OVER for me.
Apple can have mine 8 months old iPhone 6 and stick it somewhere where it fits. No more Apple phones for me..Intelligent post. Do everything Apple tells you not to do, jailbreak, self-service, and then when the device fails, you blame Apple. Way to take responsibility for your actions.
Honda makes some real junk cars. I took the trans apart to make it work the way that I want it to and now the car doesn't run.

Aug 11, 2015 6:13 PM in response to mansoorabby lll,Apple will replace the phone if the phone is under warranty and it does not work, and if the malfunction is not caused by drop or water or something you did
Stop saying that they spit on you, it's not true

Aug 11, 2015 8:30 PM in response to ercanSa78by Matispot,Hello, How you plan to do when all iPhones -6 have been sold this year to be without guarantee and begin to break with this error 53 ? When these phones are broken and their owners will complain! who you will tell them ? Apple does not want to listen to your complaints? no longer useful , you must buy another iPhone? or truth , we spend so much money on advertising that we forget how to do a good phone , please purchase an Android ..

Aug 11, 2015 8:49 PM in response to Matispotby Hong Long,Actually, I just buy Note 4 instead Iphone 6 plus. I saw that apple was so bad in this error 53. I think quality of these iphone 6 and 6s which is not good.

Aug 11, 2015 9:30 PM in response to Hong Longby deggie,@Matispot: There is no huge outbreak of iPhones failing with Error 53, it is a small amount that fail due to an hardware problem. If the owner, say yourself, has the error occur you can contact Apple and they will replace it. Are you under some delusion that phones form other manufacturers don't have hardware problems?
Hong Long, where did you see this Error 53 was so bad? For most people who see it, and it is a very few, they go to Apple and get it replaced for no charge. If the error occurred because a 3rd party replaced the screen and did not use the original Touch ID, or someone did it themselves and tore the cable on the Touch ID then they have voided there warranty. I suggest you buy the Note 4, break the screen, don't use their ID reader and see if they will give you warranty service. Report back,

Aug 11, 2015 10:31 PM in response to deggieby Hong Long,How can you explain this situation from customer above. My iphone had this error but before I never change screen or touch ID ?

Re: iPhone restore error 53 - not listed anywhere, what is the problem? has anyone seen it before???in response to ChrisJ4203There is some mistake in the statement. I bought it online, and it was actually shipped to me the next day through UPS. I confused it with the macbook pro I bought around the same time, and that was picked up from the store.
I didn't return it immediately because except for the updating IOS problem, it was working fine. So I thought it's just the new IOS problem, maybe it will be able to upgrade when the next IOS comes out. So when I realize there is something really wrong with the iphone is when the new IOS comes out and I want to try again, and this time using a PC iTune, thinking it will give it a proper upgrade, and finally the phone stopped working. So I took it back to Apple immediately. How would I know not being able to upgrade IOS is such a serious problem? And there are so many other people who have the same issue here. What would be the reason for me to want to modify my genuine iPhone with someone else other than Apple, within the 1st month of usage, plus I wasn't even aware it was defect!

Aug 12, 2015 4:35 AM in response to Hong Longby deggie,Pixy's problem is when he took the phone in for repair and they opened it they found a part inside the phone that was not from Apple. While pixy says they ordered it online and got it the next day they don't say where they ordered it from. If they did buy it directly from Apple then they could call Customer Service to investigate and resolve the situation.

Aug 18, 2015 11:19 AM in response to KDM666by mrennert,I had a cracked screen, brought it into shop, I have a black phone but they only had white in stock, so they switched the home button too (I told them I don't use the touch ID, and they said it would be fine)
A few days later, go to update....fails, needs to restore, cant, keep getting error 53.
Read your post and called the shop up and thankfully they still have my original home button!!!!!
Just brought it in and they are currently replacing the orignal button. So fingers crossed this fixes it!
Thanks for your post if this works!

Sep 27, 2015 2:26 PM in response to poppyseed83by kennedian-mu,Hi,
I am facing the same issue with my sister's iPhone. After reading through the thread I realised that the issue lies with the touch id. The lamest part is that my sister had her iPhone 6 replaced with a "new one" from Apple coz of the crescent on the facetime camera. The touch ID recently stopped working on the replacement iPhone 6 and I tried to restore the iOS to rule out any software issues. The iOS restore was stuck at 50% with "error 53". The worst part is that apple confirmed that her replacement iPhone 6 was a brand new phone and not a refurbished one. I guess they gave her a refurbished iPhone 6 where the screen & home button were replaced. We are now unable to update the iOS and we are stuck with a "bricked" phone. The phone is going back to apple asap! I shall keep you posted about what they say regarding that "error 53".

Sep 27, 2015 6:27 PM in response to kennedian-muby deggie,No, they did not give you one where the screen and home button has been replaced, the Touch ID is failing. Get it replaced.

Sep 28, 2015 3:06 PM in response to poppyseed83by binxy,Its the touch id that causes the issue but thats a big issue for a lot of owners, the home button is the most used button on the device and so is likely to fail after a few years of use, as happens with all iPhones, the fact that this now can't be replaced without making your phone un-restorable is unacceptable, the 5s had no issue apart from loss of finger print feature if the button needed replacing, why they've done this i have no idea not a good move by Apple

Oct 3, 2015 1:21 PM in response to deggieby kennedian-mu,Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Apple is in fact replacing the iPhone. Apple really messed up with the iPhone 6. Its the second time that this phone is getting replaced. First time was the crescent on the facetime camera and now its the touch id.
