Try these steps, which have reportedly worked for others:

Close the Apple Watch app along with all other open apps (double-press on the Home button on your iPhone, then swipe up on the app previews).

Restart both devices, turning both off and then restarting your iPhone first:

    - To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag the slider to turn off.

    - To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

    Then try updating again.

I had the same problem with Verifying - just stuck no messages, let it go over an hour.

I'm trying your solution but when I press and hold the side bar I get 3 options: turn off, power reserve, or device locked.  I can't select any of those options.  When I press on the Power off button it recognizes that I've touched it but does nothing.  When it does respond I get something that says "erase all content and settings"  Don't believe this is what I want so I cancel

    Any thoughts?
