Just did this again on another iPhone. Got it to work on my second attempt. I'll repost my steps so hopefully it will help someone out.

    1) Confirm your phone number. In Settings > Phone. Make sure that the My Number field has the correct phone number with +1 at the beginning of it.

    2) Sign out of iCloud. In Settings > iCloud > Sign Out.

    3) Sign out of iTunes & App Store. In Settings > iTunes & App Store > Tap your AppleID > Sign Out.

    4) Try the process again. It may take a couple of tries but the hex string will show up in the logs.

Also, only enable logging once. If you disable/enable logging everytime you toggle iMessage/FaceTime, it is possible that you are not capturing the hex string. After you get iMessage working, then you can disable logging.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers!

Hey everyone. I've tried SO MANY MANY MANY times. Have reviewed everything many times as well and am very confident I am doing this correctly. I have been extremely patient. Have found HEX STR codes from different numbers, just never ever the one from the UK Apple number. Extremely frustrating. Been trying since February.

I almost threw my iPhone after DAYS spent on this as well as countless times to get the HEX to work

I followed 'raid07' steps and realized I was signed into iTunes & App Store.

I cannot comment if that was the reason it worked the very next time I tried it, but IT WORKED!!!!

That said, I would make sure you are logged out of EVERYTHING

Either way, Im finally glad this worked. I went literally days and months with this not working.

Has anyone gotten this to work with iOS 9 (9.0.1 specifically?)

I'm seeing reports on Reddit of it working, but I'm not getting the SMS message to show up in the log file. One user mentions the process "looks different," whatever that means. The issue is on my wife's phone, where iMessage became deactivated after upgrading to iOS 9. iMessage continued to work just fine on my phone (but I've been running the public betas, so maybe that's the difference.)

Worked for me last night. Updated to iOS 9.0.1 and then forgot that my Messages had gotten out of sync while I was traveling and swapping to local SIM cards.

Took about 4 tries to make it work for me, but once I got the PDU message in the log it was easy as pie. Thanks again SMCClay, you've saved my bacon once again.

How long did you have to wait before receiving the response and is the message format still the same ("GSM SMS Point to Point PDU (as hex str):")?

I've tried waiting 2 minutes and an hour, but both times nothing was in the log.

Took about 5 minutes or less to get the message in the logs. Before that nothing was appearing in the logs or else I wasn't doing it right.

Thanks. I had to log out of iCloud before I got it to work (took <5 minutes as well.) So I guess that's confirmation of what raid07 was saying.

Today suddenly my new iPhone 6s Plus just activated iMessage by itself, without going through the manual procedure to look in the log for the hex strings, etc...

After that, I did successfully activated another iphone 6, that did not have the phone number activated.

WIndmobile must have done something to fix the activation problem. Try now to activate it normally, it might work!

It may be that Apple has gotten around to fixing this bug. If you are using iOS 9.0.2, this is in the release notes:

    iOS 9.0.2

This update contains bug fixes and improvements including:

    • Fixes an issue with the setting to turn on or off app cellular data usage
    • Resolves an issue that prevented iMessage activation for some users
    • Resolves an issue where an iCloud Backup could be interrupted after starting a manual backup
    • Fixes an issue where the screen could incorrectly rotate when receiving notifications
    • Improves the stability of Podcasts

The activation process worked for me back in January 2015.  My cell # with Wind has remained activated in iMessage and FaceTime since then (through the update to iOS8 and then iOS9).

But then something went wrong with my iPhone 6 (unrelated to iMessage or Facetime) after I updated to iOS9, and Apple recommended that I restore the phone and set it up as a new phone (not restore from backup).

So I need to repeat this manual activation process ... except that I cannot get it to work again.

After trying many times, each time waiting 5+ minutes to pull the log, there is no Hex code from Apple within the log.  I've waited as long as an hour to pull the log, but still no Hex code.  When it originally worked for me in January, the Hex code showed up in the log within 5 minutes.

BTW, I did log out (deactivate) my AppleID from the following services prior to starting the activation process:  iCloud, iTunes & App store, iMessage & FaceTime.

Any suggestions on what is going wrong?

Earlier this week I activated 3 phones, without going through any manual steps. I think windmobile, Apple or both did something. I believe you should be able to go through the normal activation process like you would do with any other carrier.
