Q: iPhone 6 Siri won't work, neither dictation!!

I don't know what's wrong, since 3 days i can't get siri to hear me, i press the home button to summon siri, the wave line moves a lot as if it was receiving a lot of noise and then goes off as if didn't recognize anything, i've tried everything, turning siri on/off, reseting phone, reseting settings, i've checked the discussions and there doesn't seem to be any solution to this.siri does work if i use the earphone set that came with the iphone, but clearly there's a problem, and 3 days ago worked just fine!!!

Copying and pasting the standard Crapple advice is frustrating. Just for the record, I have personally tried every single one of those suggestions and SIri & Dictation still do NOT work. VERY VERY frustrating to say the least. If Apple spend half as much time fix stuff as they do promoting their releases we'd have this solved already. Update 9.0.1 didn't help the situation either. Getting ****** off and ready to switch back to an Android or other device.

I can use google voice commands, record voice memos, and even hear what I record in my camera app. I have even downgraded to 8.4xx iOS just to see if I could get Dictation and Siri back (it worked). When upgrading to iOS 9 Siri and Dication stop working completely. We all spend a lot of money on a phone and this is what you do... copy and paste lame instructions into a message board?!

Admit there is a problem and assure your customers that you are working on a solution. You obviously know how to market so why don't you do a little damage control and inform your clients that you are at least aware of the problems. Good grief!

I appreciate you sharing this. However, when I downgraded back to iOS 8.4 Siri and Dictation worked perfectly. When I upgrade to iOS 9 (again) the same problem occur and Siri and Dication are back to NOT working. I don't think hardware is the problem for me.

Personally speaking, I have two devices: iPhone 6 and iPad mini  Both are updated to iOS 9.0.1 now. The iPad mini has no dictation or siri issues. However, it's experiencing issues with Game Center.  The iPhone 6, before the upgrade, had NO issues with dictation or Siri. Once upgraded to iOS 9 Siri and dictation completely stopped working. I immediate downgraded to iOS 8.4.x and Siri and dictation began to work flawlessly. Thinking that iOS 9.0.1 would fix the problem I upgraded again. Siri and dictation quit working again!

The answer you gave to help us solve our problem is standard operating proceedure. I have tired them all multiple times. However, none of the problems people are discussing here seem to be solved with this advice. It more and more appears to be a software issue. I'm convinced that the issues described with Siri and dictation are software update issues.

9.0.1 didn't fix the problem on mine unfortunately. Wish I knew (and Apple knew) what to do. Thanks for the idea any way.

i went to the Apple care they said that there is some hardware issues so they said that they will replace the iphone.so i handover ed the phone. waiting for the new one

iOS 9.0.2 did not fix the problem for me either. Apple Care never offered to send a new phone to me but did acknowledge it was a software issue for my iPhone 6. Microphone works on outward facing recordings, but not inward facing recording. Siri doesn't work (nor dictation), but yet Voice Control does. Confusing situation for sure. Patience is running out.

OK, I think I have a pretty good idea of what's going on here: I've been having all the same issues...Voice Dictation WORKS, Voice Recordings WORK FINE. SIRI will not hear me. It's not a bluetooth problem, as it works fine with those devices/headsets.

I realized the other day that if I put the speaker REALLY close to my mouth, and almost YELL into the microphone (like, put your lips on your phone), Siri will start to catch some words, if not all of what I'm saying. It's almost as if there are two separate microphones, one being used exclusively for SIRI (not likely true, but makes my point).

It's a HARDWARE issue. That, or the gain is turned way down for the mic when Siri is activated.

iOS updates are not going to fix this problem.

Since updating my iPhone to iOS 9.0, I have the same issue.

"when i press the home button to summon siri, the wave line moves a lot as if it was receiving a lot of noise and then goes off as if didn't recognize anything"

If I speak, Siri responds. I initially thought that it was no longer working since Siri used to beep when I pushed the home button.

I have the same problem since IOS 9.1 Beta, I made a long research on this problem, there is no doubt now, it is a hardware problem in the front mic near to front camera, this mic is made to be used exclusively for Siri and dictation. (voice memo and calls, ..... etc, using the main mic in the bottom)

    There are two solutions:

    1- To change your iPhone:

a- To buy a new one.

b- replace your current one form apple store.]

2- Change the front camera and mic by your self (although it is risky, you might end up with more issues)

    Hope this is helpful.

This is not the case for my phone. When I downgrade the phone to iOS 8 Siri and dictation work perfectly. I'm on update 9.1 and it still did not fix the problem. Obviously a software issue on my end.

    Okay...my Siri is working now.

There are multiple Siri  issues being discussed in this thread and many of you would do well to read details.

RedDecember incorrectly asserts that they have same issue as Alex91s. I had the same issue as Alex91s. Siri hears and transcribes everything I say correctly, then says she will do what I say, then tells me she can't, a few moments later. You hear me interweb?! My mic works!! (Was really hard searching this problem out, everyone assumes Siri can't hear me...she can!!).

However, RedDecember mentioned seeing the "My Info" slot didn't have his info saved and after he reselected his info for "My Info" and then Siri worked for him. Darn if I didn't try the same thing out of desperation and it worked! Not sure why...

My situation- restored someone else's old 5s and then set up from my most recent back up. Both my back up and the 5s were 9.2 (latest as of this post). I tried hard resets, complete restore from new without a back up, toggled Siri on and off in about every conceivable combo....nothing worked until I reselected "My Info" in Siri's settings.

LIke I said, I don't get it, but I tried every f'ing thing and I'm no slouch with fixing iPhone software or hardware issues (shout out to the OG unlocking community!)

Just wanted to let y'all know what worked for me. 12-27-16
