Q: Lost bootcamp after using mini tool partition to increase windows partition size

Seems to be a very common problem that requires a lot of customisation so many thanks for the support in here people

There are so many threads to go through but figured to mention my problem maybe it has been solved before and i can follow the footsteps.

What i did was reduce OS X partition size, restart in bootcamp windows 7 and used Mini Tool Partition to acquire the free space. Restarted windows worked great for a couple of days until i restarted in OS X which as most threads here have boot camp is called disk04 and can not be mounted nor can it been seen in startup disk.

All i want is to get the windows working as i have no backup (i know!) and to sort out the missing space.

I will continue to go through the post but any pointers will be appreciated !

As per original post, here is the results:

Vmini:~ Vulkyn$ sudo gpt -r -vv show disk0

    gdisk output P command

    Command (? for help): p

    Disk /dev/disk0: 976773168 sectors, 465.8 GiB

    Logical sector size: 512 bytes

    Disk identifier (GUID): 00007CDE-7F2C-0000-1927-00008C7C0000

Partition table holds up to 128 entries

First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 976773134

Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries

Total free space is 93750901 sectors (44.7 GiB)

Number  Start (sector)    End (sector)  Size       Code  Name

587616672   93750880       is the offending space i think.

    3       586347136       587616671   619.9 MiB   AB00  Recovery HD

    4       681367552       976773119   140.9 GiB   0700  BOOTCAMP

So its safe to assume that the missing area is between recovery HD and bootcamp ? Around 93750881?

So i will probably need to run test disk ?

Please see Bootcamp fails after Yosemite upgrade (Plz help me Loner!) as a reference. You will need to run Quick Search and skip past the unrecoverable partitions. The startup UI screens can be seen at https://imgur.com/a/PjmnK .

Use 'P' to list files in the second MS Data sized at 389154809 sectors. I would expect a listing similar to

Your partition using the Testdisk output will look like...

    vulkyn-ntfs.png

Use NTFS Start and NTFS Size values from this in the first set of Gdisk steps. The second set of Gdisk steps are the same. These go into the steps in the referenced discussion.

No, you do not need the Deeper Search. Deeper Search is handy when the 'destruction is much more extensive.
