Q: latest version of old iPhoto?

what is most current version of old iPhoto out there? 9.6.1?

plus, how do you get it now if you don't have it?

unclear why apple would take upgrade out of store?

can you still get iLife'11 anywhere? (think it may be there also)

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), Intel Core2 Duo 2.7ghz, TimeCap

Yes, on MacOS X 10.10.5 you need iphoto 9.6.1.

You can only updating to this version by reinstalling an iPhoto version that is showing in your Purchases history at the App Store.  See this link:   Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS X 10.10.3

Basically, move the incompatible iPhoto version from the Applications folder  to the Trash (the application, not your iPhoto Library). Then sign into the App Store and open the Purchases tab. It should now show "Install" to the right of iPhoto.

For the past few days iPhoto had been gone completely from the App Store, but tonight Apple returned older purchases to the App Store.  There may be maintenance work going on, so try again later, if the problem persists.

Thanks, I saw your response on this before I posted, but how/where do you get it if its not in your purchase history? I never purchased it.

I had iPhoto 8.2.1 on my 2 imacs (1 w/Mtn Lion and 1 w/Lion) so I must have never purchased anything that upgraded iPhoto beyond that?

I dont see any options under my purchases to get iPhoto. I upgraded to Yosemite on the Mtn Lion imac and my iPhoto 8.2.1 became disabled.

I was guessing maybe you had to have purchased iLife'11 to get iPhoto 9, but I don't see/ can't find that anywhere now either?

It is too late now.  Apple stopped the development of iPhoto and is no longer selling iPhoto. If your iPhoto version is 8.2.1, you need the help of Apple Support to get to version 9.6.1.

Even if you buy an iLife '11 installer from Amazon or eBay, you cannot update it from Apple's Support Download page beyond iphoto 9.4.3, and that will not run on Yosemite Mac SO X 10.10.3 or later. iPhoto 9.6.1 has only been available from the AppStore.

I'm very skeptical, if you can talk the Mac App Store support into selling you a redeem code for iPhoto 9.6.1.  Apple wants the users to migrate to the new Photos.app that comes with Yosemite.

If the latest version of iPhoto that you ever had was 8.1.2 then you'll not be able to obtain iPhoto 9.6.1.  One must have had iPhoto 9.X installed in order to get 9.6.1 from the App Store.

Purchasing iLIfe 11 from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com and installing iPhoto 9 has not been verified to work in allowing the user to get 9.6.1 from the App Store.  If you try you may be wasting good money.

    Thank you.

I was afraid that may be the case.

I did contact apple support earlier and they basically said same thing,,, its over & no we won't give you a final iphoto download.

With MacOS X 1010.5 you can use the new Photos.app instead of iPhoto. It can open iPhoto Libraries, and the next version of Photos to be released with El Capitan (probably tomorrow)  will bring some improvements.
