If you have the correct RAM upgrade, then perhaps the modules are not firmly seated in the slots and need to be reseated.

Adding that Yosemite will run on iMac's from Mid 2007 and newer.

Sep 29, 2015 7:01 PM in response to TigerTom72by babowa,Just a note of caution: just in case you decide you want to go backwards, check your Purchases area at the app store to make sure Mavericks is still showing there. And, if you go ahead, you will need to erase your drive completely as you cannot install an older OS over a newer one.

Your description of the problem sounds more hardware related than OS and
it is likely the demands of the new OS are uncovering a hardware issue.
