Sep 29, 2015 7:18 AM in response to Sdh178by sterling r,Hi there Sdh178,
If I understand correctly you have two issues here. First your emails don't play a notification sound when you get new mail and second your emails are read as soon as they come in. If these are looked at somewhere else like a computer or other mobile device before they come into the phone that can be expected. If that is not the case, I would check your notification settings for the Mail app and that account specifically:
Go to Settings > Notifications
If your sounds and alerts are setup correctly I would next quit the Mail and Settings apps on your device:
1. Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
2. Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Let us know how that goes and thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

Sep 30, 2015 12:10 AM in response to sterling rby Sdh178,Thank you Sterling r but it didn't work.
I have noticed now that if I delate an email on my phone it also deletes it on my computer. The emails I receive are received by others to the same mail box.
I think I am going to have to go back to iso 8.
regards

Sep 30, 2015 6:29 AM in response to Sdh178by sterling r,Thanks for the update. Before you downgrade, I would next remove the account from your phone:
- Remove the affected email account from your device with these steps:
- Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Tap the email account.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Add your account again.
Re add the account and test the issue again. If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

If you have an IMAP account like a Gmail, Outlook or Yahoo that is how it is supposed to work. What kind of account do you have?
The emails I receive are received by others to the same mail box.
What do you mean by the "same mail box". If they are logged on to the same account then it is supposed to be that way. Or are you talking about two people with the same Apple ID?
I think I am going to have to go back to iso 8.
You can only do this for a limited amount of time; do not know if Apple is still signing iOS 8.4.1. Check here:
