Q: New Epson WF 3620-can't print-cannot find printer....

Ok. Here's the deal. I have an HP 6700 that was working and then stopped working a few days ago. It had to do with the wifi-no matter what I did, the error message was that printer was not connected/couldn't be located. Ok. So I got a new printer thinking it was something internal that went belly up with the wifi signal.

The new printer arrived today. It's an Epson WF 3620. Set it up per instructions. And this one won't print either! Same error message. The control panel says the network is setup and all is fine. EXCEPT I can't print.

I downloaded the Epson app so that I can print from my iPhone and iPad. The app cannot find the printer. I downloaded Epson Connect to set this all up and it can't find my printer.

I will say that when I go to the control panel on the Epson printer to the Wifi Wizard it lists 2 networks with the same name for my network. I am wondering if this has something to do with it. I don't know why it's listed twice-it's only listed once in Network.

I don't know what is going on. I uninstalled the Epson software and installed it again. Did the same for the HP. Same issue.

If I go to the control panel on the printer (both the Epson and HP) and set up the wifi again (changing nothing), it will print once from my MBP. Just once. Then if I need to print again I have to go through the control panel again and then it will print. Once.

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this-maybe I should post in the Networking forum. I sure hope someone can help me out with this issue. Not being able to print is a pain!

Oh, the only thing that I can think of that is different with my set up is that I recently added a Transporter Sync.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for any help! Judy

Update: Time Machine couldn't find the TC. Ugh. Then I had an idea.... And the idea solved the problem.

If  the last resort didn't work I would nuke and pave. My last resort was to unplug everything in my IT closet (aka the pantry)-modem, weather station, router, TC, 2 external hard drives and the Transporter. Turned off the printer. Waited about 10 minutes. Started up the modem first. Then the router. Then the TC. Tried to print. PRINTER WORKED. I contained my excitement. Tried to print from hubby's computer, my iPad and iPhone. BINGO!!! Printer worked. Then I plugged in the Transporter and the hard drive that is connected to it. Tried to print from the same things... They all printed just fine. I was giddy at this point. Plugged in the other hard drive. Printer worked with all devices. So I plugged in the last thing and tested the printer again.... It worked flawlessly.

On my iDevices the printer was found with no problem. I am very happy.

I had unplugged just the router before, not the modem. And that was the key.

I am hoping that the printer will continue to work. Thank you again, Greg, for your patience.

In case this helps anyone else, here's my solution: enable Bonjour on the printer.

I have a WF-3620 and after upgrading to Yosemite (OS X 10.10), my Macs could no longer find the printer.  I tried every solution that I could find online (repairing permissions, reinstalling and upgrading the Epson drivers, relaxing the CUPS permissions, reset printing system, etc...).  I also called Epson Support, which was able to walk me through adding the printer by IP.  Since that worked, I knew the drivers worked it was just that OS X couldn't locate the printer.  The Epson guy suggested that I try calling Apple support, so I did.  The Apple guy was nice, but couldn't really help.  He did suggest that I try some more time consuming options including creating a new admin user (to rule out that it was my user profile that was the problem) and reinstalling the OS (in case it was corrupt).  I did both of those and neither worked.

After sleeping on it, I decided to poke around in the Epson settings via the web interface.  To do this, just enter the printer's IP address in a browser that's on the same network (you may have to skip some HTTPS / certificate warnings).  From there I looked around until I found Wi-Fi/Network Settings / Services / Protocol.  On my system, Use Bonjour was unchecked.  I had seen in other people screenshots and videos that when the Add Printer tool works, it shows that it connects via Bonjour, so I enabled Bonjour and saved the settings.  After waiting a few minutes for the settings to be applied, I was able to add the printer via the Add Printer Default tab (I did change the "Use" setting from "Secure AirPrint" to "Epson WF-3620 Series" option -- I think this is the Epson specific driver).

I don't know if Bonjour is disabled by default or if I turned it off somehow in the past and forgot, but it's an easy enough fix that might work for someone else so I thought I should share.

    Good luck!

This is exactly the problem with my WF-3620. I've never seen a printer that has Bonjour turned off by default so it was really confusing. Thank you so much!

The IP address can be found by printing a config page from the printer, or on a front panel if it has one.

This got it fixed for me.  Thanks so much for posting.  I spent two hours trying to figure this out before I came across your post.

When I ran the Epson installer it found the fax device but not the printer.  The IP address displayed for the fax is the same as the printer IP.  I hope this helps.

I had a similar problem. My mac could see the device as a scanner, but not the printer. I used the IP address, and bonjour was checked. I checked and unchecked, forced it to save/apply in the settings. Then it appeared as a multifunction and worked.  Weird. Thanks for the tip.

I had the same problem and found a very simple fix. Go to printer settings, click on printer, click options, then you will see location is blank. Type in AirPrint. Then print. I called Apple about this after I found the fix and they are reporting it to their engineering department. The tech said it was a great fix.

I have called Epson C/S so many times since purchasing my Epson WF-3620 due to this same issue. They never told me to type in AirPrint on the Location line. I just tried it and it worked. Hopefully, that will be an easy remedy as I was continually getting the disgusting message, "printer is not connected." Thanks a million!
